FT UDMPU 12 Month Faculty

Position Summary

The University of Detroit Mercy College of Health Professions, School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences, is accepting applications for a full-time Principal Faculty appointment supporting the Doctor of Medical Science (DMS) Program. Rank is determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

This faculty member will teach across the DMS and PA curricula, advise students, contribute to curriculum development and student assessment, participate in program evaluation and accreditation activities, and engage in service to the program, School, College, and University.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach graduate-level courses in the DMS and PA Programs based on program needs and the faculty member's academic and clinical expertise. Teaching assignments may include in-person, hybrid, and online formats.
  2. Develop, revise, and coordinate courses, syllabi, learning objectives, instructional materials, learning activities, and assessments in collaboration with program faculty and leadership.
  3. Advise students. Monitor academic progress, identify concerns early, document advising as required, and connect students with appropriate academic or University resources.
  4. Mentor doctoral scholarly capstone projects and other culminating experiences as assigned by the DMS Program.
  5. Participate in the program’s assessment, outcomes evaluation, self-studies, and continuous improvement.
  6. Participate in student recruitment, admissions, orientation, progression, academic support processes, and graduation activities as assigned and consistent with University and program policies.
  7. Maintain appropriate student and academic records and comply with University policies regarding confidentiality, academic integrity, accessibility, and student information.
  8. Provide service through participation on program, School, College, and University committees and through appropriate professional and community activities.
  9. Support the mission and values of Detroit Mercy and contribute to an inclusive, respectful, student-centered learning environment.
  10. Perform other faculty duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution. Examples may include PhD, EdD, DMS/DMSc, DHSc, or another relevant doctoral degree.
  • A minimum of five years of clinical practice or health professions experience.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience at an accredited institution of higher education, with experience appropriate to the instructional responsibilities of the position
  • Ability to teach and engage students in a virtual learning environment
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience designing, delivering, and evaluating graduate-level courses in online and hybrid learning environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, course coordination, student learning assessment, program evaluation, and continuous quality improvement within higher education.
  • Demonstratedexperiencewithaccreditationprocessesandstandardsinhealthprofessionseducation.
  • Demonstratedexperienceadvisinggraduatestudentsanddoctorallearners,includingsupervisionofscholarlyprojects,capstoneexperiences,theses,dissertations,andstudent
  • Evidence of effective interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to preparing health professionals to serve diverse and underserved communities.

Physical Requirements

Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10pounds).

Work Environment

Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.

Anticipated Schedule

This is a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment. The anticipated schedule is determined by program needs and assigned responsibilities. Duties may include on-campus and online teaching, meetings, student advising, scholarly or professional activity, and participation in program events.
