The Division Chief isdirectly responsibleto the Chair, Department of Surgery, University of MiamiMillerSchool of Medicine for the Division's overall functionThe Chief will also serve astheChiefSurgical Officer forthe specialtyat JacksonHealth Systemand the Chief of the Surgical Service at the VAMC for clinical activities within that Institution.On an annual basis, the performance of theChiefshall be evaluated by theChair of the Department of Surgerybased on the effectiveness of his/her leadership role and the satisfactory execution of duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promote the mission ofUHealthin achieving its role in providing medical education, research, and quality patient care
Ensure that the clinical services offered by the Division are of the highest quality, meet community needs, and support the organization
Assume responsibility for developing andmaintainingcost-effective resource management activities and strategies for the effective delivery of patient care correlated to clinical quality outcome datai.e.develop policies and procedures for quality assessment/improvement program.
Establishperformance criteria,measure,and record performance to make recommendations for promotion, tenure,and salary for all faculty, and staff members of the Division.
Collaborate withDepartmentalleadership to increase revenue generationand implement a cost-containment plan
Interpret and help to ensure medical staff compliance with hospital and medical staff bylaws, policies, procedures, rules and regulations,and applicable regulatory standards.
Serve as an active member of medical staff and hospital committees.
Serve as a liaison to other disciplinesto improve care coordination or to resolve concerns.
Perform such other functions and duties as may be assigned or requested by theDepartmentalleadership.
