Tenured Professor in Experimental Quantum Physics

The position is open to talented individuals who hold a doctorate in physics or a closely related field and have an outstandingtrack recordand potential for further extending a productive scientific career. The position is to be filled either at tenured Associate Professor, or Full Professorlevel of the Aalto University tenure track system. The level is chosen based on the selected candidate. The position is full-time and permanent.

We seek candidates who havedemonstratedexcellence and whose research plans are within experimental quantum physics at low temperaturesWe consider candidates with research focus on solid-state quantum materials or transport, or on superconducting circuits.We seek a research profile thatcomplementsorextendsthe current efforts at the Department.The candidates should aim at finding novel fundamental phenomena as well as functionalitiespossibly leadingto applications in quantum, information, or other technologies. The appointed professors will beclosely connectedwith theOtaNanonational infrastructure whichincludes:cleanroom facilities ofMicronova,NanomicroscopyCentre and Low Temperature Laboratory, and the equipmentatthe Department of Applied Physics. The professorships are supported byInstituteQ For links to these facilities see “What we offer?”belowThe successful candidates are expected to lead an outstanding independent research program at the Department of Applied Physics, as well as to take responsibility for education in this field at Aalto University. Preference will be given to candidates who can take advantage of the existing facilities. Within the Aalto University tenure track system, theminimumrequirement for Associate Professors and Full Professors is excellence in research and high-quality in teaching,or excellence in teaching and high-quality in research.

Your experience

Throughout their career, those in the academic tenure track system are expected to exercise and guide scientific research, to provide related higher academic education, to follow advances in their field, to participate in service to the Aalto University community, and to take part in societal interaction and international collaboration in their field. We seek applicants who have:

  • A doctorate in a field closely related to this position;

  • Strongexpertisein carrying out research and attract research funding at the highest level;

  • Skills to collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment;

  • Experience in education and researcher training in physics;

  • Ability to be an effective teacher in the undergraduate and graduate degreeprogrammesof the School of Science.

The applicants will be evaluated based on their demonstrated ability in research, teaching, academic leadership, and activities in the scientific community.The evaluations are carried out bearing in mind that the career stage for candidates applying either for the Associate Professor or Full Professor position are not the same.Professors in the Aalto tenure track system must be fluent in English to carry out their duties successfully. Finnish language skills are notrequired
