Te Kura Mātai Matū |The School of Chemical Sciences is the largest chemistry-related department in Aotearoa New Zealand, with over 30 permanent academic staff and over 100 PhD students. We have a very strong international reputation in chemical sciences research, with collaborations spanning the globe and high-quality research infrastructure. We also have postgraduate programmes in Food Science, Forensic Science, Green Chemical Science and Wine Science that could provide collaborative research opportunities for successful candidates. Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The School of Chemical Sciences seeks to appoint a new continuing academic as a Professional Teaching Fellow, with a primary focus on contributing to the teaching of chemistry in the University’s Tertiary Foundation Certificate at the University’s Tai Tonga campus. This is a teaching-focussed role (non-research), and the successful applicant will play a key role in ensuring student support and curriculum delivery in this key foundation programme, to ensure student success and as well as supporting high quality teaching throughout the school.

This is a part-time (20 hours per week), permanent position, based mainly on the Tai Tonga campus, with some time at City Campus. The appointees may be asked to contribute to our offshore teaching commitments, including travel to other countries, as part of the role. The position is expected to start in January 2027.

The remuneration range is $105,791 per annum, dependent on skills and experience, and will be pro-rated

• You are, or have the potential to be, a role model for teaching excellence with impact on teaching practices within the University and for the field.
• You have demonstrated your ability to ensure that students from diverse backgrounds are able to thrive and progress in chemistry (especially in a foundation programme like the Tertiary Foundation Certificate), and that you are effective in sharing your own passion for the subject with them.

• You are interested and are, or have the potential to be, active in dimensions beyond teaching and student support; for example, mentoring and advising students and colleagues, public outreach, science communication.

• You are collaborative and collegial, willing to support the successful operation of the School, and will be accessible to colleagues and students; and
• You have a high-level understanding of and commitment to the principles of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access in a university context.

Our ideal applicant will have a conferred PhD in Chemistry or related discipline.
