Examples of duties

In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience in assisting the Treasurer's Office in updating Policy and Procedures Manual. The duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to the duties listed below.

Review and understand current processes with staff, make edits.

Submit the final revision of project to the Treasurer and/or Deputy Treasurer for approval.

Assist in the developing of Treasure’s Procedures used as training tools for incoming staff.

Completion of assigned deliverables within project timelines and maintaining detailed records of work.

Observing and participating in assigned departmental activities.

Performing other duties as assigned by area supervisor.

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Currently enrolled as a senior in a four-year program in business or accounting or a closely related field. Or have obtained a bachelor's degree in business or accounting or a closely related field within two years of the closing of this post (preferred).

Must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average and an instructor or professor recommendation.

Must be available to work twenty hours minimum and twenty-five hours maximum per week starting in January 2027 for 12 weeks.

Reliable transportation to and from our St. George office with occasional travel to the Summerville office.

Supplemental information

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Proficient skill with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and presentation tools.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Self-starter and positive attitude.

Comfortable in presenting findings to internal teams.

Dorchester County operates under a Council Administrator form of government and has 766 full‐time positions. A seven‐member County Council is elected by district and provides policy direction to the County. The County Council appoints the County Administrator, the County Clerk, the County Attorney, and the Delinquent Tax Collector.

The County Administrator is responsible for the administration of all departments under the control of the County Council. The present County administrator has been in the position since 2004 and is assisted by a Deputy County Administrator and a Chief Financial Officer.
