About the Opportunity:
Join a 52-year-old, privately owned, multi-disciplinary architecture and engineering firm based in South Tampa with a strong book of government and institutional work across the state of Florida. Long & Associates Architects/Engineers, Inc. offers a hands-on, in-house environment where collaboration across architecture, structural, mechanical, and electrical teams is the norm. This role is the result of planned succession: our long-tenured Senior Electrical PE is preparing for retirement, and we seek a capable, Florida-licensed P.E. to step into both current leadership and future ownership opportunity.

The Senior Electrical Engineer (P.E.) will lead the design and documentation of electrical systems across a variety of building types, including K-12 schools, higher education campuses, municipal buildings, libraries, and industrial facilities. You will coordinate closely with architectural and mechanical disciplines and serve as both designer and project leader, with full responsibility for signing and sealing your work. This is a succession-focused hire, and we are prioritizing individuals who demonstrate leadership, accountability, and long-term commitment.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering Leadership

  • Lead the electrical design for new construction and renovation projects
  • Design power distribution, lighting, low-voltage, and signaling systems
  • Conduct field investigations and project punchouts
  • Sign and seal electrical documents in accordance with Florida law

Cross-Disciplinary Coordination

  • Collaborate with architectural and mechanical teams to ensure design integration
  • Review and incorporate LEED standards and sustainable practices in design

Project Oversight & Client Interaction

  • Serve as lead electrical engineer on assigned projects
  • Interface directly with clients and attend design meetings
  • Prepare estimates, fee proposals, and participate in scheduling decisions

Technical Tools & Documentation

  • Prepare documentation using AutoCAD and Revit (BIM)
  • Use EasyPower and other software for load calculations and system coordination
  • Perform lighting calculations to comply with ASHRAE and Florida Energy Code

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited); Master’s preferred
  • Active Florida Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
  • Minimum 5 years of post-licensure experience in building systems design
  • Demonstrated experience signing and sealing electrical documents
  • Proficiency with Revit (BIM) and AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of EasyPower or equivalent power design software
  • Experience with Division 27/28 systems including data, fire alarm, CCTV, and security
  • Ability to pass FDLE Level II background check and obtain school/port access credentials
  • U.S. work authorization and E-Verify compliant

Preferred Qualifications:

  • RCDD certification
  • LEED AP or LEED BD+C accreditation
  • Experience with daylight harvesting and alternative energy design
  • Prior involvement with LEED-certified or energy-conscious projects

Benefits

  • Health Insurance (75% employer-paid)
  • Dental and Vision Insurance (available through pre-tax payroll deduction)
  • $20,000 Company-Paid Life Insurance
  • Company-Provided Long-Term Disability Insurance (required participation)
  • 401(k) Plan with employee-managed contributions
  • Profit Sharing (based on firm performance)
  • Paid Time Off: Two weeks vacation (accrued), 3 personal days, 6 paid holidays
  • Paid licensure exam time (up to 8 hours) and fee reimbursement upon passing (after 1 year)
  • Education expense reimbursement (case-by-case approval)

Background & Clearance Requirements:

  • Must pass FDLE Level II background screening
  • Must meet E-Verify eligibility
  • Must be able to obtain security badges for school and port job sites

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Mid-to-senior career electrical engineer with leadership intent
