Production Technician
Department: Water Supply
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Location: Handois, Jersey
Reporting To: Maintenance Operations Manager
The Production Technician is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective production of safe drinking water. The role involves maintaining and monitoring all equipment and processes used in the production of water, maintaining records of water quality and production data to ensure that they meet regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor our water treatment plants and associated equipment to ensure the efficient production of safe drinking water.
- Maintain and improve mechanical and electrical assets across treatment works, pumping stations, and distribution network.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and condition-based maintenance to maximise asset reliability and lifespan.
- Diagnose faults and lead root cause analysis on equipment failures, implementing corrective and preventative actions.
- Support and deliver minor capital projects, upgrades, and plant modifications.
- Ensure all engineering work complies with regulatory, health & safety, and company standards.
- Review plant performance, identify inefficiencies, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work closely with operations teams to optimise treatment processes and ensure resilience of supply.
- Maintain accurate asset records, maintenance logs, and technical documentation.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to contribute to the overall success of the Company.
- Manage and supervise contractors and third-party service providers on-site.
- Support development and implementation of maintenance strategies and asset management plans.
- Participate in emergency response and out-of-hours call-out if required.
- Attend training courses as required.
- Option to join Standby Duty Officer role.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- A Level 2 NVQ or City & Guilds qualification in a relevant discipline is desirable.
- Completed a hands-on engineering, plumbing, electrical, or related discipline apprenticeship.
- Proficient in both electrical and mechanical services.
- Experience working in a relevant industrial environment, such as food manufacturing, heavy industry, or a similar process-based operation.
- Computer literate, with a solid understanding of the Office 365 software suite.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and risk management.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid clean driving licence.
- Forklift truck qualification and experience desirable.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads.
- The ability to work under own initiative with minimal supervision.
- A team player who can collaborate to ensure business objectives are met in a timely fashion.

- Pension – Membership of the defined contribution scheme. Jersey Water pays 5% up to 5 years’ service and then 10%, employees pay 5%. A matching scheme is available whereby Jersey Water matches additional voluntary contributions up to a maximum of 5%.
