As a key member of the UK Production Engineering support team,you’llplay a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of Sky’s television production facilities. Supporting flagship channels such as Sky News, Sky SportsNewsand major Sky Sports productions,you’llcombine strong core broadcast engineering fundamentals across video, audio, graphics, networking,softwareand control systems with the flexibility to support both traditional broadcast and modern, software-driven production environments. This role is designed to suit a well-rounded broadcast engineer, while also recognising the added value ofpreviousindustry experience supporting TV graphics systems and related workflows.

Whatyou'lldo:

  • Provide reactive first line support to live TV Production, Graphics and Post-Production Facilities, such as Sky News, Sky Sports News, F1, Football, Cricket, EFL, Golf, Tennis, Racing, Netball,Rugbyand many other key Sky Sports productions

  • Work a regular shift pattern

  • Provide reactive, logical, and methodical fault finding to a broad variety of faults found across a large Television Production & Post-Production facility

  • Create & update tickets for every task, working these through to resolution

  • Learn and grow on the job, getting involved in traditional broadcast solutions but also having a keen eye on the future of broadcasting

  • Proactive maintenance & monitoring of hardware,softwareand mechanical systems in a broadcast environment

Whatyou'llbring

Essential Criteria:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Broadcast Engineering, Media Technologies, or similar.

  • A strong understanding of the technical elements of a broadcast TV chain, encompassing traditional broadcast systems as well as modern IP, cloudand software-based production solutions

  • Previousexperience working in a support role within broadcast production engineering, with confidence fault-finding across live production and post-production environments

  • A highly effective, positive, and influential communication style; demonstration of excellent people skills, communication skills, and coaching

  • Understanding and experience working with Broadcast IP standards and implementation including SMPTE 2022, SMPTE 2110,AoIP(AES67) and PTP

  • Competency with IT and computer networking

  • A structured and analytical mindset when diagnosing both hardware and software technical problems through logical reasoning and systematic troubleshooting

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previousindustry experience supporting TV graphics systems and workflows, such asVizRT, Chyron, Unity, AR/VR graphics, graphics playout, templateworkflowsand associated control systems

  • Experience troubleshooting the wider technical stack behind graphics systems, including GPU-based hardware, Windows systems, XML files, graphics data feeds, SQL databases, log interrogation and general workstation or server hardware

  • Working knowledge of standard broadcast systems such asCalrecAudio, Riedel Comms, Grass Valley routers and vision mixers, BNCS/Cerebrum control systems, EVS replay systems, Ross automation systems, AWS/cloud infrastructure and editing systems including Avid, Adobe and Quantel

Shift Pattern

You willbe requiredto work a shift pattern that covers a 7-day fortnight covering 24/7/365. This would normally becomprisedof Week 1- Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat, Sun / Week 2 - Wed, Thu 12-hour days with one-hour break and on an early/late rotation. This would lead onto night shift cover later down the line covering the wider team responsibilities.
