Job Description

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION’S ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the general direction of Production Superintendent, supervise union personnel ensuring that the operation/maintenance of the Rosebud Mine/Facilities complies with authorized practices and procedures, and production/maintenance requirements are accomplished in a safe and efficient manner. The Supervisor will be required to work rotating and/or weekday/weekend shifts depending on Company requirements. The Shift Supervisor will implement an effective safety program conducting safety meetings as required, ensure effective new and refresher safety task training for assigned personnel; monitor and inspect work areas to assure area is safe and in compliance with all MSHA and company safety rules and regulations, correcting all unsafe conditions. Respond to accidents as required to provide first aid, investigation and root cause analysis.

The Supervisor will supervise all personnel assigned to them on shift, including assignment of duties, evaluation of performance, training and recommendation for training. Administer activities to ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures and union bargaining unit agreement. Additionally, the Supervisor will coordinate and direct work activities to effectively implement mine/maintenance plans, ensuring safe productive utilization of all equipment assigned on shift. Ensure effective coal quality control procedures are used; coordinate safe mine/facilities activities to maximize equipment availability and provide for preventive and scheduled maintenance. Analyze operational/maintenance requirements and adjust priorities as required. Communicate status of work activities as needed with the department manager or other departments. Prepare or review reports as required to evaluate and document activities

QUALIFICATIONS:

Five years’ experience in mining or a related industry or a B.S. degree in Civil, Mechanical or Mining Engineering. Previous experience in supervising and directing the work of others. Demonstrated knowledge of operation and maintenance functions. Demonstrated knowledge of environmental and safety regulations. Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact with other supervisors, professionals, representatives and departmental staff from within and outside the company. Successful candidate must possess or obtain a State of Montana Mine Foreman Certificate within the first 90-days. Successful candidate must have a valid drivers’ license.

Successful applicant must possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license through the duration of employment. Successful applicant must meet all insurability requirements as specified by Westmoreland’s policies or Driver’s insurance provider.
