Business Unit Overview

This divisional site is one of many companies within our business unit. Our High Precision Machines business unit designs and builds advanced machine tools and manufacturing systems enabling customers to produce complex components with unmatched precision and efficiency

Position Summary

Provides sound technical leadership and mentoring to the assembly department. Ensures the transfer of technical knowledge to ensure that quality standards, cost requirements, schedules and customer specific requirements are met. Manages daily work assignments for assembly personnel to provide efficient and effective use of resources. Delivers the highest quality components and machine tools built on time. Promotes employee accountability in project execution.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Make daily work assignments for assembly groups in a fair and equitable manner.
• Perform weekly capacity planning to ensure job priorities are clear and concise to all personnel.
• Ability to hold personnel accountable to business plan performance and execution using daily management tools.
• Provide technical support to employees, assist in problem solving and root cause analysis.
• Ability to lead.
• Ability to present technical content in front of cross functional groups.
• Develop, mentor, and coordinate training new employees and/or current employees on new equipment or assembly processes.
• Communicate with other departments and management as needed for smooth operation of assembly department.
• Work with management to resolve problems with equipment, product, procedures and personnel issues.
• Coordinate and build machine tools, accessories, rebuild project, repairs or subcontract work.
• Active participation in the machine build process from the beginning of the unit build cycle through customer acceptance.
• Coordinate resources with test engineering, wiring, inspection and runoff to meet planned schedules.
• Participate in engineering design reviews as a technical representative.
• Recommend changes to improve the efficiency of the department.
• Maintain a safe, clean & orderly working area.
• Occasional travel to customer facility may be required.
• ISO 9001 &14001 awareness and compliance

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

• Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 6 – 10 years related work experience and/or training.

Skills Required

• Ability to lead and train individuals
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to understand complex machine builds
• Ability to hold individuals and groups accountable for project execution
• Effective problem-solving skills and ability to solve technical problems
• Read and interpret assembly drawings. Understand geometric tolerancing.
• Operate gages such as OD and ID micrometers, verniers, gage blocks, etc.
• Operate small machines, including lathe, grinder, drill press, belt sander, etc.
• Root cause analysis experience
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects to meet customer expectations
• Ability to communicate in front of and too at all levels in organization
• Ability to elevate and communicate issues effectively in a timely manor
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities quickly and effectively
• Proficiency with SAP or other business system
• Intermediate Microsoft Excel, Basic Microsoft Word
