Job Description

1. Primary Function

Responsible for the supervisor and management of the TPO manufacturing processes in Plant 5. Provides leadership on his / her assigned shift to accomplish training objectives, meet production schedules in a high quality, safe manner, facilitates problem solving and makes timely decisions. Promotes a high level of teamwork both on and among shifts as well as between departments. Responsible for maintaining records to comply with company procedures and applies policies and rules in a fair manner while fostering a participative, yet structured environment.

1. Duties and Responsibilities

• Shift Management - Possesses a good working knowledge of the manufacturing processes. Provide leadership and direction to shift personnel in order to meet the production requirements. Review inventory and production levels to make recommendations and adjustments to maintain efficient balance. Adjustments include decisions concerning equipment downtime, manning levels and material quality. Has a clear understanding of the plant information systems to maximize utilization. Provide direction during shift-to-shift hand-off meetings and boardwalk discussions. Fill in for other Production Supervisors when required, due to vacation, off-site meetings and absenteeism

• Supervision / Employee Development - Uniformly enforces and applies company policies and procedures to maintain fair and consistent work practices. Provides input and seeks clarification where necessary to ensure that adequate communication and understanding is occurring. Provides honest, objective and specific feedback to crew leaders and production team members so they clearly understand improvement opportunities. Actively supports and participates in employee teams and problem-solving groups. Serves as facilitator, when needed, to maintain the group's focus and provide the necessary resources. Identifies personnel with the desire and skill to be trained and developed for other jobs with greater responsibilities.

• Quality - Manages shift to minimize defects and rework. Facilitates decision making and problem-solving process to foster a more participative and committed approach to the operations. Ensures that published processing specifications (SOPs) and quality control tests are not only followed but recommendations for improvement are vetted and implemented when appropriate. Monitors defect and downtime causes and provides feedback and recommendations to the Value Stream Manager so sustainable corrective actions can be implemented.

• Training / Safety – Provides clear, consistent direction relative to maintaining and enhancing a safe work environment for all employees, visitors and contractors. Awareness and improvements are driven through leading monthly shift safety meetings. Conducts accident and near miss investigations, confirms incident reports are completed accurately in a timely manner, and ensures information is posted to the designated electronic database and shared across all shifts and when appropriate, operations. Maintains shift records relative to on-the-job training status for all shift personnel. Initiates manning assignments to address training needs required to ensure production goals can be met with qualified personnel.

• Cost Reduction / Process Improvement - Contributes towards the plant's cost reduction goals through awareness, spend control, and idea generation. Coaches and encourages crews to identify and implement cost savings opportunities. Utilizes lean manufacturing tools to identify and drive continuous improvement. Provides the necessary leadership to obtain the data, acceptance, and details necessary for an effective project justification. Communicates actions and results from CI and Cost Savings Projects to the other shifts and operations management.

• Communication - Coordinates gathering and dissemination of information for production team with other functional groups such as Production Scheduling, Shipping, R & D, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Human Resources. Partner with shift maintenance team to understand downtime related maintenance requirements and help prioritize urgently needed production equipment repair.

1. Education & Experience Requirements

• Education: Associates Degree in Business Management or related field
• Equivalency: High School Diploma / GED and agreement to obtain Associates Degree (maintaining position will be contingent on completing this coursework)

• Experience: Minimum of five years in a manufacturing environment with proven experience in one or more leadership or supervisory positions.

1. Work Environment / Time Worked

• Work Environment: Activities occur inside a plastic extrusion and dry chemical mixing facility

Most time is spent on the factory floor where atmospheric conditions vary in temperature from cool (55°F) to hot (100°F). At times, portions of the facility can be dusty and dirty. Work pace can be fast leading to stressful situations regarding decision making and actions to be taken.

• Hours Worked (generally):
  • 7:00AM to 3:30PM and 3:00PM to 11:30PM (Rotating each week)
  • One fixed shift - 11:00PM to 7:30AM
• Work Week: Monday - Friday with weekends when production demands warrant it.
• Shifts Worked: One supervisor per shift.

• Supervisory Responsibilities

• Direct the work of approximately 15 to 20 various production positions
  • Coach and counsel employees; conduct performance reviews of Crew Leaders
  • Participate in Panel Interviews for new employees or promotional opportunities
  • Train or coordinate training of new employees
  • Enforce CCM Policies and requirements
  • Partner with HR and senior management for disciplinary action requirements
  • Conduct Safety Meetings
  • Teach and ensure understanding of safety and quality requirements
  • Support MDI process and support SQDC discussions (Boardwalk)
  • Audit use of COS required tools (5S, TPM, Countermeasures, etc.)
  • Maintain training records for all team members on shift
  • Ensure crew members are working safely and following company policies and regulations

Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
