Role Overview

  • Lead and coordinate daily activities for team members engaged in the setup, operation, repair, inspection, and manufacture of parts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent floor leadership through team huddles, process confirmation, employee check-ins, and timely escalation of safety, quality, delivery, or staffing risks.
  • Create a safe and inclusive work environment by reinforcing stop-work authority, reporting unsafe conditions, investigating incidents, and ensuring corrective actions are completed and sustained.
  • Partner with the production planner to estimate labor hours and develop monthly, weekly, and daily production plans that support internal and external demand.
  • Assign daily work by priority and required quantity, confirm expectations are understood, and verify assigned team members are trained and certified for the operation.
  • Review planned versus actual completions, labor utilization, schedule attainment, work in process, quality performance, and constraints; take action to recover gaps and communicate risks.
  • Maintain accurate WIP boards, production records, transactions, status updates, and assigned action closures.
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, routings, work instructions, and job orders; communicate technical requirements and coordinate support when requirements are unclear or incomplete.

  • Develop succession plans for critical positions, identify high-potential employees, and prepare qualified backups for critical operations.
  • Promote employee engagement by listening to ideas and concerns, involving team members in problem solving, communicating business priorities, recognizing contributions, and following through on commitments.
  • Manage performance fairly and consistently, including expectations, attendance or conduct concerns, recognition, corrective action, and partnership with Human Resources when support is required.
  • Contain quality risks, document nonconformances, and participate in root cause and corrective action activities using tools such as 5 Why, fishbone analysis, and corrective action verification.
  • Inspect or verify parts and products as required and direct appropriate equipment or process adjustments when output does not meet standards.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Planning, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and other functions to resolve constraints, improve work instructions, and meet customer commitments.
  • Drive waste reduction and continuous improvement using lean methodologies, including 5S, visual management, standard work, daily accountability, point-of-use material placement, improved part flow, setup reduction, mistake-proofing, and structured problem solving.
  • Facilitate team-based improvement activities, establish measurable baselines and targets, confirm results, standardize successful changes, and monitor sustainability.
  • Achieve departmental KPIs for Safety, Quality, On-Time Delivery, Productivity, Labor Utilization, Schedule Attainment, Training Compliance, Employee Engagement, and Cost Performance.
  • Use ERP, production management, labor reporting, and business intelligence systems to monitor performance, identify trends, analyze gaps, and support data-based decisions.
