Job Description

The Diez Group, Kansas City, is looking for a Production Supervisor to join our 2nd Shift team. Current business is warehousing and distribution. Your position will focus on safe and efficient set-up, changeover, safe operation, and troubleshooting of the press machines.

Objective

The Production Supervisor is responsible for managing a diverse and talented manufacturing team. Your primary goal is to ensure the safety of your team members and properly organize staff members to achieve a reasonable workflow throughout the day. Your position will also include directing, disciplining, training, and assisting lower-level manufacturing employees in a factory setting. You must ensure customer requirements are met through effective workforce planning and by training the team toward continuous improvement in product quality and production efficiency.

Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership to employees by encouraging positive engagement
  • Facilitate meetings related to quality, housekeeping, safety, productivity, and continuous improvement
  • Manage the performance of employees with appropriate recognition, feedback, and/or discipline if necessary
  • Maintain employee rosters, including whether any employees are on vacation, FMLA, or sick leave
  • Comply with all company and departmental policies and procedures
  • Ensure all safety, production, housekeeping, quality, and delivery targets are met
  • Ensure all incidents, accidents, or injuries are documented immediately and reported to appropriate management personnel
  • Communicate with the opposite shift supervisor to discuss pertinent information and/or schedule changes
  • Assist in corrective actions related to safety, production, and quality
  • Ensure efficient upkeep and utilization of equipment by communicating with upper management and the maintenance department
  • Recommend and implement process improvements
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualifications

  • All candidates must be able to work all shifts, Saturday, Sunday and overtime when needed
  • Outstanding interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop staff members
  • Exercise decision-making skills
  • Familiar with the coordination of Shipping and Receiving.
  • Familiar with Scheduling of production schedules and work orders.
  • Approachable and professional.
  • Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively handle multiple tasks at one time.
  • Well organized.
  • Adherence to the attendance policy.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervisory responsibilities for approximately thirty (30) personnel.

Work Environment

This job operates in a steel/aluminum processing and distribution plant. When on the plant floor, the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn appropriately.

Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to climb and descend a flight of stairs as needed.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday. Extended hours, nights, and weekend work may be necessary based on business needs or customer needs.

Travel

This position requires no regular travel.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent years of experience in a similar industry or military equivalent.
  • ISO & IATF 16949 knowledge and understanding are a plus.
  • Previous supervisory experience (3-5 years) in a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic understanding of OSHA, labor, and federal regulations.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
