The Production Process Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless integration of assembly process standards and manufacturing capabilities to maximize the efficiency of hydraulic pumps and motors assembly operations. This role focuses on designing and optimizing assembly processes, equipment selection, layout planning, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure world-class productivity, safety, and quality.
1. Assembly Process Optimization & Engineering
Process Design:
Develop and maintain efficient assembly processes for new and existing products, with a focus on productivity, safety, and ergonomics.
Work Study:
Conduct detailed time studies, motion analysis, and line balancing to optimize takt time and eliminate non-value-added activities (MUDA).
Lean Manufacturing:
Implement one-piece flow, 5S, and Kaizen principles to streamline operations and enhance workstation layouts.
Technical Documentation:
Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WI), and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) for all assembly operations.
2. Equipment & Tooling Management
Resource Validation:
Specify, source, and validate assembly equipment, jigs, fixtures, and hand tools required for precision production.
Commissioning:
Collaborate with maintenance and suppliers for the installation, commissioning, and preventive maintenance planning of new machinery.
Troubleshooting:
Lead root cause analysis for equipment-related issues affecting assembly line performance.
3. Work Planning & Operational Readiness
Production Support:
Ensure all assembly processes are fully validated and documented before production release.
Order Execution:
Collaborate with the Planning team to translate production orders into actionable process setups and workstation configurations.
NPI Coordination:
Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) planning, defining process timelines, pilot run schedules, and conducting DFM/DFA reviews.
Change Management:
Implement Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and communicate process modifications to the production teams.
4. Performance Monitoring & Data Analytics
KPI Tracking:
Monitor key process indicators such as cycle time, first-pass yield, and downtime to identify improvement opportunities.
System Utilization:
Utilize MES/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JFLEX) to track process performance, material flow, and production status.
Problem Solving:
Lead structured problem-solving activities (8D, Fishbone, DMAIC) to address recurring process deviations.
5. Safety, Sustainability & Quality
Proactive Culture:
Maintain a high standard of HS&E culture, ensuring all incidents are reported and investigated.
Compliance:
Ensure all processes comply with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 (OSHA) requirements.
Ergonomics:
Identify and mitigate process-related risks through proactive engineering controls and ergonomic workstation design.
Education & Technical Skills
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related Engineering field.
Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of mechanical assembly principles, torque control, fastening techniques, and modular assembly.
Systems:
Proficiency in ERP/MRP platforms (SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics) and data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI).
Certifications:
Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certifications will be an added advantage.
Experience & Competencies
Professional Background:
3 to 5 years of experience in Manufacturing Process Engineering, Lean Management, and both Low and High-volume production lines.
Regulatory Knowledge:
Minimum 3 years of experience working with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OSHA standards.
Soft Skills:
Effective communicator across departments (Maintenance, Planning, Procurement) with a proactive mindset in resolving process disruptions.
Global Mindset:
Ability to collaborate with international sister plants to share best practices and coordinate inter-plant transfers.
