The Production Planner is responsible for coordinating and planning manufacturing activities by creating, releasing, and managing production job packets and ensuring timely closure of jobs within the ERP system. This role ensures efficient workflow, accurate documentation, and alignment between scheduling, production, and inventory control to meet customer delivery requirements and optimize production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Job Creation & Planning: Generate and release production work orders/job packets/product labels based on master production schedules, customer orders, and material availability.
- ERP Management: Enter, monitor, and close production jobs in the ERP system, ensuring data accuracy for labor, materials, and routing information.
- Scheduling Support: Collaborate with production supervisors to sequence jobs effectively to meet deadlines and maximize resource utilization.
- Documentation Control: Maintain up-to-date work instructions, drawings, and quality documents within each job packet.
- Job Completion: Review completed jobs, confirm quantities produced, reconcile variances, and ensure all labor and material transactions are accurately recorded in the ERP before completion.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in lean manufacturing or process improvement initiatives to streamline planning and ERP workflows.
- Finished Goods Stock: Maintain finished good stocking levels. Review open orders for ability to use any finished goods in stock for these orders.
- Manage order changes/cancellations in the ERP system and on the production floor.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two to four years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or manufacturing operations.
- Proficient in ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Epicor, NetSuite).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and data integrity.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to read/write/speak English fluently.
- Experience in discrete manufacturing or job shop environment.
- Understanding of lean principles, inventory control, and capacity planning.
- Familiarity with bills of materials (BOMs), routings, and manufacturing documentation.
