Ultium Cells Overview:

Ultium Cells is a joint venture lithium-Ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solutions and General Motors. This new construction high-technology plant will have the latest battery cell manufacturing technology. The investment in this new business venture represents a commitment of more than $2.3 Billion. It will be among the largest battery cell manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells will produce battery cells for General Motors North American electric vehicle applications.

The Ultium cell partners include LG Energy Solutions; the world’s largest manufacturer of automotive battery cells in the world and General Motors a global company committed to delivering safer, better and more sustainable ways for people to get around.

The Production Planner-Formation plays a critical role in supporting day-to-day manufacturing operations within the battery production business. This position is responsible for coordinating production schedules, managing inventory levels, supporting purchasing activities, and helping maintain efficient production flow to support operational performance and company objectives.

The Production Planner is accountable for the accuracy and timeliness of production-related processes while working closely with production, engineering, maintenance, quality, supply chain, and operations teams. This role also supports purchasing coordination activities including Purchase Requisitions (PRs), Purchase Orders (POs), material tracking, and reporting purchasing discrepancies or process concerns to Shift Leadership for timely resolution.

Additionally, the Production Planner serves as a key communicator between the shop floor and cross-functional teams to support production efficiency, material availability, schedule adherence, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the manufacturing process.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain daily and weekly production schedules for the Electrode Department to support operational targets and customer demand
  • Monitor production performance, inventory levels, manpower availability, and material flow to minimize downtime and production interruptions
  • Coordinate and track purchasing activities including Purchase Requisitions (PRs), Purchase Orders (POs), deliveries, and goods receipt status
  • Review purchasing transactions for accuracy and follow up with internal departments and suppliers regarding open items, delays, or discrepancies within the purchasing process
  • Report purchasing concerns, material shortages, invoice issues, or process gaps to the Shift Leader and support timely resolution
  • Support cost tracking and spending visibility by maintaining accurate purchasing and inventory records
  • Synchronize information flow between multiple logistics and purchasing systems
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, quality, engineering, and supply chain teams to support daily manufacturing operations
  • Monitor raw material, semi-finished, and finished goods inventory to prevent shortages or overstock conditions
  • Assist with production capacity planning, downtime coordination, and schedule adjustments based on operational needs
  • Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, communication flow, and purchasing processes
  • Adhere to company safety standards, policies, and operational procedures

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field; OR 5+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, manufacturing operations, purchasing coordination, or related experience
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing operations and production planning processes
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with production, engineering, maintenance, and supply chain teams
  • Proficient computer skills including Excel, ERP systems, and manufacturing systems
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Must be able to lift, pull, and push up to 50lbs occasionally throughout the day

Annual refresher training will be completed every year after to fulfill the requirements of 40 CFR. Other training to be provided as required
