Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Based on the backlog schedule, this role is responsible for determining order delivery timelines, forecasting and evaluating manpower requirements, establishing capacity standards in collaboration with Engineering and Lean teams, developing reasonable shift arrangements and efficient production schedules, tracking order progress, and ensuring on-time delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop reasonable shift plans based on the master planner backlog schedule, shipment plans, and demand forecasts, raw material availability, capacity standards, and manpower conditions, and collaborate closely with all relevant functions to ensure smooth production and on-time delivery
  • Handle production plan adjustments related to order cancellations, urgent orders, earlier delivery requests, and delayed delivery requests in a timely and accurate manner to avoid capacity waste, material waste, labor waste, and delivery delays
  • Maintain close and timely communication with Engineering, Lean Manufacturing, and other relevant departments to ensure production planning is executed according to the latest capacity standards
  • Forecast and evaluate manpower requirements based on order demand to ensure workforce capacity is aligned with business needs
  • Develop optimal and achievable daily production plans by considering all production factors and constraints, and communicate them accurately and efficiently to the production floor for execution
  • Release work orders through the ERP system according to the production plan and ensure data accuracy, and make timely and accurate system updates to relevant work orders when material change notices (MCN) occur
  • Monitor production progress, make timely adjustments when necessary, and track work order closure status to ensure work orders are completed and closed on time
  • Effectively control work-in-process inventory and production cycle time
  • Optimize planning processes through continuous improvement efforts to enhance on-time delivery performance

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or above
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in production planning
  • Good understanding of production planning workflows and processes
  • Proficient in computer operations and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel
  • Experience with ERP systems is required
  • Detail-oriented, responsive, and strong in logical thinking
  • Experience in production planning in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Basic English reading and writing skills

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience with the SAP PP module is preferred
