Job Description

We are seeking a Production Manager to lead and manage the daily operations of the production floor. The role focuses on ensuring that all products are manufactured safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in line with quality standards.

The selected candidate will be responsible for resource planning, team coordination, workflow optimisation, and resolving operational challenges to achieve production targets. A strong commitment to health and safety, continuous improvement, and effective leadership is essential to ensure smooth operations and drive departmental performance, while embedding CBS (Crane Business Systems) into everyday practices.

Essential Functions Performed by the Position

  • Ensure full compliance with all workplace health and safety regulations, maintaining a zero incident environment through proactive risk assessment and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead a production line to deliver on set KPIs.
  • Support and give directions to a team of Associate Managers, Technical Manager and Executives.
  • Ensure that enough resources are made available in line with set budgets and loading capacity, and that team is trained against a managed skill matrix.
  • Support the planning department with forecast requirements and execute according to set production plans.
  • Lead Daily Gemba Walks and team meetings, Escalation Meetings and Operations Review.
  • Assist the Malta Site Lead and Senior Leadership Team with Escalations impacting the Business.
  • Ensure the factory remains Tour Ready through consistent standards, housekeeping, and visual management.
  • Define a Technical Implementation Plan (TIP) and deliver weekly updates with supporting data.
  • Support the business in estimate builds, and with the introduction of new jobs.
  • Drive Technological Improvement supporting Industry 4.0 and drive technological advancement with management and the Business Unit.
  • Deliver required stock takes in area in line with end of period or year-end requirements.
  • Manage factory variances, including overtime, unrecovered, and training.
  • Participate in end of month financial analysis, comparison of actual vs job estimates and understand generated variances.
  • Own area budget and monitor relevant expenditure.

Position Qualifications

Education:

  • Applicants must hold a minimum of an MQF Level 5 Diploma or higher. A Degree in Engineering and/or Business Management will be considered an asset.
  • Be conversant with MS Office applications and with a drive for digitalization.
  • Have experience with ERP platforms (e.g., SAP, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics) to support scheduling, reporting, and operational decision making.
  • Have excellent communication skills and comfortable with analyzing data and numbers.
  • Be self-motivated, able to work in a dynamic environment with limited supervision.
  • Be conversant with Lean Methodology.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar professional role and/or in a manufacturing environment.

Language Proficiency:

  • Fluent in English.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good communication skills for interacting at all levels and possessing sound influencing, negotiation, and assertiveness skills.
  • Ability to coach and manage a team of people leaders.

Working Hours and Conditions

  • On site in a High Secure Area in a manufacturing environment.

Physical Characteristics and Demands

  • This role requires physical movement, including standing and walking.
