Job Description

The Production Manager leads plant production across three shifts, five days a week, in our caulk and sealant manufacturing operation. This role is responsible for safety, quality, delivery, and cost on the production floor. The Production Manager drives disciplined day-to-day execution, training, and corrective actions, supports the quality system, and develops shift supervisors while giving them room to grow into stronger leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a zero-harm safety culture; enforce chemical handling, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and PPE standards; and work with EHS to close out incident corrective actions.
  • Support the quality system, own production control plans, and lead corrective actions to reduce scrap batches and scrap tubes.
  • Deliver the production schedule on time and in full while holding consistent standards across all shifts.
  • Manage cost per earned hour, staff to demand, and drive waste reduction.
  • Run daily SNAP meetings at every shift change covering safety, quality, schedule, equipment status, and open actions, with clear owners and follow-up.
  • Standardize the shift handoff process; conduct 5S audits, post scores, and sustain improvements.
  • Apply LEAN and DMAIC tools to improvement projects and carry them through the Control phase with updated standard work and training.
  • Partner with Maintenance to define Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), including clear Production and Maintenance roles and responsibilities.
  • Support equipment installations, startups, and operator training.
  • Coach and develop three shift supervisors, own the training matrix, and fill in during supervisor absences.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Psychology, Operations, or a related field, and/or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing leadership experience, including leading supervisors in a multi-shift operation.
  • Proven experience with LEAN tools, including 5S, standard work, value stream mapping (VSM), SMED, visual management, and kaizen.
  • Working knowledge of DMAIC tools, including root cause analysis, Pareto analysis, fishbone diagrams, 5 Whys, and control plans.
  • Experience in chemical, adhesives, or sealants manufacturing. (Preferred)
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification. (Preferred)

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Strong leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to develop supervisors and hold teams accountable to clear standards.
  • Ability to lead consistently across multiple shifts and keep expectations the same from shift to shift.
  • Solid understanding of chemical handling, LOTO, PPE, and general manufacturing safety practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to find root causes and follow corrective actions through to completion.
  • Comfortable working with production data and KPIs to track performance and make decisions.
  • Ability to run effective, focused meetings with clear owners and follow-up.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work across Maintenance, Quality, EHS, and leadership.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and manufacturing or ERP systems.

Physical Demands

  • The role requires standing and walking on the plant floor for extended periods of time. The associate must be able to bend, reach, climb stairs, and move throughout the facility, and must wear required PPE for extended periods. The work is performed around noise, moving equipment, and chemicals. The role also requires flexibility to be on-site across all three shifts as business needs require.

Work Environment

  • This is an on-site, plant-floor role in a caulk and sealant manufacturing facility. The work environment includes exposure to chemicals, moving equipment, and noise, and PPE is required. Flexibility to support all three shifts is required, including early mornings, evenings, and coverage for supervisor absences.
