Wieland is hiring a Production Lead The Production Lead will be responsible for guiding and motivating a group of individuals towards achieving specific project goals or tasks, and overseeing the progress of work in the department area. The ideal candidate should have proven forklift and/or heavy equipment driving experience, require little supervision, demonstrate initiative, and have extreme attention to detail. This candidate must also be able to work within a team environment, be organized and flexible, and be able to work on multiple tasks. This role is located in Granite City, IL, and will be fully on-site.

Hourly Pay Range $26/hr - $28/hr

Work Schedule Mon – Fri 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

Responsibilities

Production Lead Responsibilities:

  • Work independently and as part of a team with safety as the number one priority.
  • Monitor employee productivity and provide coaching to meet performance goals.
  • Willingness to follow direction of department leader(s).
  • Assist the manager to ensure employees are given appropriate tasks and assignments, and manage when and how tasks are performed.
  • Inspect work for accuracy, neatness, and adherence to company policy and procedures.
  • Support employees with process-related challenges and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Deliver clear written and verbal instructions to team members.
  • Assist the manager in identifying workflow improvements, preparing schedules, and expediting tasks.
  • Training of new hires within their departments.
  • Assist the manager to develop/coach team members for promotion opportunities.
  • Partners with HR and higher-level leadership to address performance improvement and attendance issues as they arise.
  • Provides feedback to higher-level leadership toward performance management of team members.
  • Serves as a backup for other departments as needed.
  • Create short- and medium-term plans for materials processing.
  • Functional knowledge to perform all processes within assigned department.
  • Collaborate with other departments to achieve company goals.
  • Maintain a safe and productive work environment.
  • Ensure material quality, reducing material contamination.
  • Collaborate with other departments to achieve company goals.
  • Actively promote and enforce safety initiatives and workplace policies.
  • Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures. Bring problems to the attention of the Supervisor, Safety or HR.
  • Follow Daily Procedures & Protocols as set forth in job orientations and trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned, along with flexibility to work in other departments as needed.

Production Lead Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years’ experience with process or production equipment in an industrial work environment.
  • Ability to receive direction from higher-level leadership and relay it to applicable team members.
  • Ability to give clear instructions to team members and field questions as they arise.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Adherence to health and safety regulations - Ability to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. Hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, earplugs, steel-toed shoes, gloves, full body harnesses, or other protective equipment as required by the location and work performed. Some tasks may require work in confined spaces.
  • Use of a respirator may be required for certain tasks. Must be medically cleared, fit-tested, and qualified to wear a respirator when applicable. Must maintain appropriate personal grooming to ensure an effective respirator seal.
  • Self-motivated person with mechanical ability and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to receive direction/guidance from leadership.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Good communication and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Ability to read documents and/or written directives and make simple arithmetic calculations.
  • Maintain safety as high priority in all aspects of responsibility.
  • Attentive to detail and alert at all times to ensure safety.

  • Periods of standing, walking, negotiating stairs, ladders, elevated catwalks and platforms.
  • Walking over uneven and/or slippery surfaces.
  • Exposure to production environments that are not temperature-controlled.

  • Vision abilities, including close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment.
  • Ability to stand, balance, walk, and reach for extended periods.
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Sit for extended period of times.
  • Stand for extended periods, walk and reach with hands or arms.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle, touch or manipulate items.
  • Stoop, reach, kneel, twist, and walk while handling cases of product.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
