Production Engineer- Machine Shop, Savli, Vadodara (India)

Department: Manufacturing / Operations / Quality

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: India

Reporting To: Hemal Suthar

The Production Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising machine shop operations involved in the manufacturing of submersible pump and motor components. The role focuses on achieving production targets, maintaining quality standards, optimizing machine utilization, reducing downtime, and ensuring safe manufacturing practices.

Key Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Planning & Execution
  • Execute daily, weekly, and monthly production plans for machine shop operations.
  • Ensure timely machining of components such as motor housings, stators, rotors, pump bowls, impellers, shafts, bearing housings, and other pump/motor parts.
  • Monitor production schedules and coordinate with stores, quality, maintenance, and assembly departments.
  • Track production output against targets and implement corrective actions to address deviations.
Machine Shop Operations
  • Supervise CNC machines, CNC lathes, conventional lathes, drilling, milling, grinding, and tapping machines., hydraulic press machines, Gig and fixture
  • Ensure optimum machine utilization and productivity.
  • Monitor machine setup, tooling, cutting parameters, and process controls.
  • Minimize machine downtime through coordination with maintenance teams.
  • Ensure proper preventive maintenance schedules are followed.
Quality Management
  • Ensure components meet drawing specifications, tolerances, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with Quality Assurance for in-process and final inspections.
  • Investigate quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Maintain process capability and reduce rejection and rework rates.
Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities for cycle time reduction and productivity improvement.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze production data to improve efficiency and reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Participate in new product development and process validation activities.
Team Management
  • Supervise machine operators, setters, and shop-floor technicians.
  • Allocate manpower based on production priorities.
  • Conduct training on machine operation, safety, quality, and productivity improvements.
  • Monitor employee performance and adherence to SOPs.
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Promote safe machine handling and use of PPE.
  • Conduct safety audits and implement corrective measures.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards as per 5S requirements.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain production records, machine utilization reports, rejection reports, and downtime analysis.
  • Prepare daily production MIS and performance reports.
  • Ensure adherence to ISO and quality management system requirements.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of machining processes and cutting tools.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Understanding of CNC programming fundamentals.
  • Production planning and shop-floor management.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and problem-solving skills.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, TPM, and 5S implementation.
Education and Experience
  • B.E. / B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • 5–8 years of experience in machine shop operations.
  • Experience in submersible pumps, electric motors, pumps, castings, automotive components, or engineering manufacturing industries preferred.
  • Hands-on exposure to CNC machines, CNC lathes, conventional lathes operations and production planning.
