Our vision is to expand an already vibrant and growing aviation community. EAA hosts the AirVenture Fly-In annually at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. This event is EAA's annual convention and draws more than 650,000 attendees and 10,000 aircraft.

SUMMARY

The Production Coordinator is a key member of the EAA Publications staff responsible for assembling and producing EAA’s monthly member publication, EAA Sport Aviation, as well as EAA’s e-publications, which are distributed to more than 200,000 members. Responsibilities include research, editing and proofing, as well as the management of schedules, processes, tasks, content, and vendors. Duties will also include writing articles and features for the magazine and associated electronic publications.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Executes the editorial plan created by the Publisher and Vice President of Publications/Editor-in-Chief that supports the organization’s strategic vision, mission, values, brand, messaging, and overall communication objectives.
  2. Understands and continually monitors full breadth of member/reader interests and needs, and prepares monthly member survey results for Managing Editor.
  3. Takes day-to-day responsibility for production of the EAA Sport Aviation magazine and oversees production of e-publications, including eHotline and other newsletters.
  4. Ensures all elements of magazine and e-publications are completed on time and as expected. These include but are not limited to EAA Sport Aviation and eHotline.
  5. Ensures that all EAA-published content, including but not limited to magazine and digital stories, marketing materials, advertisements, museum signage, social media posts, etc., is edited for accuracy, content, and style.
  6. Within the publications/editorial team, assesses available resources, determines current and future needs, and recommends how existing resources can be used to their fullest potential.
  7. Works with Managing Editor and relevant colleagues to receive/make recommendations as to distribution of magazine/e-publications content pieces across appropriate EAA channels.
  8. Participates in weekly content and eHotline meetings, and other meetings as required.
  9. Manages list-pull process to deliver member address data to our print vendor.
  10. Monitors and responds to member correspondence as required.
  11. Develops and maintains industry knowledge and contacts.
  12. Liaises with all EAA business areas to support copyediting, proofreading, subject matter and EAA voice/style review across all EAA-published material.
  13. Responsible for production of AirVenture-specific publications including the AirVenture Souvenir Program and Official Visitor’s Guide.
  14. Coordinates with senior copy editor to identify areas for improvement to editing process, recurring copy errors, and improvement of EAA publications’ voice and style including maintaining and updating EAA’s internal style guides.
  15. Takes on role of AV Today newspaper assistant editor during AirVenture, and oversees production and provides task tracking for staff including freelancers and staff writers.
  16. Ideal candidate will also write articles and features as required.
  17. Attends industry events as assigned.
  18. Provides support to EAA’s division and affiliate publications as required.
  19. Embraces and supports the EAA mission and performs safe practices in the workplace and aviation environment.
  20. All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related subject is preferred, but a combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • 2+ years print publishing, writing and editing experience.
  • A demonstrated passion for EAA’s mission.
  • Broad knowledge of the range of aircraft, people and other subject matter represented at EAA’s annual fly-in (EAA AirVenture Oshkosh).
  • Basic writing skills, in a style and tone consistent with the interests of the EAA Membership.
  • Basic editing skills and an appreciation for creative design, photography and illustration processes.
  • Understanding of relationship between printed publications and a broad range of electronic communications — email publications, internet, blogs, and online communities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Access to a network of relevant freelance writers and contributors.
  • Pilot certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Typical office setting. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Preparation for AirVenture or other events may require lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, standing and walking for extended periods of time while bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and push and pull motions.
