Job Description

  • Own the master production schedule, backlog, and work order planning for a Houston manufacturing facility.
  • Play a key role in moving the operation from a traditional push-based model toward a pull/demand-driven production system.
  • Highly visible, hands-on role working directly with the Plant Manager, Engineering, Supply Chain, Project Management, and Production.

Our Client

Our client is an established manufacturer of highly customized industrial equipment serving customers across multiple industries. The Houston operation is a vertically integrated manufacturing environment that includes machining, fabrication, welding, and assembly, with approximately 70% of its work being engineered-to-order.

The Role

  • Own and maintain the site’s master production schedule, balancing customer demand, capacity, materials, and engineering release dates.
  • Manage the weekly production backlog and create/release work orders to the manufacturing floor.
  • Coordinate closely with Engineering and Project Management to schedule engineered-to-order projects as designs are released.
  • Monitor ERP/MRP signals and maintain accurate planning parameters, routings, and scheduling data.
  • Identify capacity constraints, material shortages, and schedule risks before they impact customer commitments.
  • Partner with machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, and supply chain teams to keep production moving according to plan.
  • Lead production rescheduling and communicate changes across Operations, Sales, Engineering, Purchasing, and other stakeholders.
  • Help drive the facility’s transition toward a pull-based, demand-driven scheduling model while improving overall planning processes and ERP data integrity.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in production planning, master scheduling, production control, materials management, or related manufacturing operations.
  • Strong understanding of ERP/MRP-driven production planning, including capacity planning, supply/demand signals, backlog management, and work orders.
  • Experience in make-to-order, engineer-to-order, or low-volume/high-mix manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Experience around machining, fabrication, welding, or other vertically integrated manufacturing operations is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and Excel skills; Epicor experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to take ownership of the schedule, proactively challenge planning signals, and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Engineering, or a related field preferred; relevant manufacturing production control experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
