Job Description

The Production Control Assistant is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of production orders within our composites manufacturing operation. Assisting Planning in connecting with sales, engineering, production, and materials teams — ensuring that manufacturing orders (MOs) are created accurately, tracked through every stage of production, and closed out (transacted) correctly in our ERP/MRP system.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Order Creation:

  • Create manufacturing orders (work orders/travelers) in the ERP/MRP system based on sales orders, forecasts, or engineering releases
  • Print manufacturing orders (MO) and production travelers as scheduled
  • Verify bill of materials (BOM), routings, and revision levels are current before order release
  • Confirm material availability and flag shortages to Materials/Purchasing
  • Kit, issue and deliver components and parts directly to departmental manufacturing orders
  • Validate released documentation is correct and included with each work order
  • Support order priorities and due dates in line with the master production schedule

Order Monitoring:

  • Track manufacturing orders through each stage (layup, trim, assembly, paint/finish, inspection, packaging)
  • Monitor work-in-process (WIP) against schedule, assisting to identify and escalate delays
  • Maintain accurate status updates in the ERP system and shop floor tracking tools
  • Provide regular status reports to Planning and Production

Order transacting / Closeout:

  • Process labor and material against orders (issues, receipts, backflushing) as work is completed
  • Reconcile actual material and labor consumption against standards; investigate and resolve variances
  • Process and route approved QA components to the next production or shipping stage
  • Close completed orders in the ERP system, ensuring accurate inventory
  • Support month-end/quarter-end WIP reconciliation and inventory counts

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Create Packing Slip and Certificate of Conformance paperwork in ERP system ensuring alignment of corresponding customer PO lines to Packing Slip lines
  • Assist with local part deliveries
  • Forklift operation, after internal training
  • Assist Inventory Team with scheduled cycle counts
  • Assist Shipping/Receiving Team, when necessary
  • Ability to respond and react to pull stock signal system
  • Continuous improvement efforts for Planning and Production processes

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High level of computer proficiency and ability to learn new software systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, including sorting/filtering, basic formulas and working with production or inventory data
  • Strong data entry accuracy
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, inventory control or production planning preferred
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems preferred
  • Clear written and verbal communication across cross-functional teams
  • Highly organized with good attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify discrepancies and research data to resolve them
  • Ability to anticipate and solve practical problems
  • Demonstrated reliability and follow-through
  • Team orientated, with a positive attitude
  • Valid driver’s license
