Job Summary

We’re looking for a Production Automation Engineer to support the reliability, performance, and availability of automated manufacturing systems across our facility. As the site’s technical expert in industrial automation, you’ll troubleshoot and optimize robotics, CNC equipment, PLCs, vision systems, and manufacturing system integrations to minimize downtime and improve production performance.

Location: Tampa, FL

Schedule: Hybrid (3 days a week onsite)

What You’ll Be Doing

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize automated manufacturing equipment, including robotic cells, CNC machines, PLC-controlled systems, vision systems, and material-handling equipment.
• Diagnose automation and controls failures, restore equipment safely, and implement corrective actions that improve reliability and uptime.
• Support industrial robots, including programming, communications, motion control, calibration, tooling configurations, and system backups.
• Troubleshoot CNC communications, automation interfaces, and integrations with robots, conveyors, inspection systems, and peripheral equipment.
• Modify and support PLC and HMI applications, industrial PCs, sensors, drives, servos, VFDs, safety controllers, and industrial networks.
• Maintain control system documentation, electrical drawings, equipment backups, firmware records, and change controls.
• Support integrations between production equipment and MES, SCADA, historian, database, and other enterprise systems.
• Develop and maintain SQL queries, reports, and data-extraction tools used to monitor and analyze production performance.
• Partner with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, IT, equipment manufacturers, and system integrators to resolve technical issues.
• Participate in root cause investigations, equipment upgrades, retrofits, obsolescence planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop standards and best practices for automation system maintenance and support.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience supporting industrial automation equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled manufacturing systems.
• Experience supporting industrial robotics and automated manufacturing cells.
• Experience supporting CNC equipment and machine-tool automation.
• Working knowledge of industrial communication networks and protocols.
• Working knowledge of SQL databases and relational database concepts.
• Experience integrating or supporting automation systems connected to enterprise relational database platforms.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and root cause analysis skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience supporting robotic vision or automated inspection systems.
• Experience with MES, SCADA, manufacturing historians, or production data-collection systems.
• Experience commissioning equipment upgrades, automation retrofits, or process improvements.
• Experience coordinating technical issue resolution with equipment manufacturers and automation system integrators.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, fumes, dust, and varying temperatures.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and moving throughout production areas.
• Ability to perform hands-on troubleshooting and equipment inspections in an active manufacturing environment.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 35 pounds.
• Ability to work around automated equipment, robots, CNC machines, and industrial systems while following established safety procedures.
• Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to all safety requirements.

This position may require work hours outside of the regularly scheduled hours to meet operational needs. This may include work during evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Additional work hours are assigned based on business requirements. Non-exempt employees will be paid overtime in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.

The salary range for this position reflects a broad spectrum of experience levels. Individual compensation within the range is determined by multiple factors, including relevant experience, education, certifications, job related skills, internal equity, and market conditions. We evaluate each candidate individually to ensure fair and competitive pay decisions.
