Job Description

The Production Assistant Manager - Battery Systems Assembly (BSA) is responsible for supporting and leading daily production operations within the Battery Systems Assembly area to achieve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity objectives. This position provides direct leadership to Production Supervisors and production teams while driving operational excellence, workforce development, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Production Assistant Manager collaborates closely with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, Materials, and other cross-functional departments to ensure efficient production processes, resolve operational challenges, and support the achievement of business goals. This role serves as a key leader in developing team performance, promoting accountability, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (To perform within this position successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Assist in managing daily production operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely manufacture of high-quality battery module products.
  • Lead and support Production Supervisors and team members in achieving departmental goals related to safety, quality, productivity, delivery, and cost performance.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics, implementing corrective actions to achieve performance targets.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, efficiency, scrap reduction, quality improvement, and cost savings.
  • Support and lead root cause analysis activities for production, quality, equipment, and process-related issues while ensuring sustainable corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Materials teams to troubleshoot manufacturing issues and improve operational performance.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, quality standards, and established manufacturing procedures.
  • Support workforce planning and manpower allocation to ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained to meet production requirements.
  • Promote adherence to standardized work instructions and operating procedures across all shifts.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop Production Supervisors and production team members to enhance performance, technical knowledge, leadership capabilities, and employee engagement.
  • Support employee training, cross-training, and skills development initiatives to improve workforce flexibility and operational effectiveness.
  • Participate in hiring, performance management, attendance management, employee development, and disciplinary processes in accordance with company policies.
  • Coordinate the efficient utilization of labor, equipment, and materials to maximize production efficiency and minimize operational disruptions.
  • Lead and participate in Kaizen events, lean manufacturing initiatives, and other continuous improvement projects.
  • Ensure accurate production reporting, documentation, and communication of operational performance to department leadership.
  • Serve as a liaison between leadership and production teams, fostering effective communication and collaboration across departments.
  • Support departmental objectives and strategic initiatives as directed by Production Management and senior leadership

AUTHORITY & SCOPE This role operates within defined corporate policies and procedures and exercises judgment appropriate to its level of responsibility. The position may influence decisions related to functional operations, processes, or recommendations and escalate matters as required

Qualifications (The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required and preferred for this position.)

Required Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of manufacturing experience in a high-volume production environment.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of leadership experience as a Production Supervisor, Team Lead, or equivalent manufacturing leadership role.
  • Experience managing production operations, employee performance, and departmental objectives within a manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop employees.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production systems, and operational performance metrics.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing demands.
  • Demonstrated accountability, ownership, and commitment to achieving departmental objectives.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis, corrective action processes, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple functions and organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to analyze production data, identify trends, and implement effective solutions.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, quality standards, and manufacturing best practices.
  • Experience within an automotive, battery, electronics, aerospace, or other high-volume manufacturing environment.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, Business Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in automotive, battery manufacturing, electronics assembly, or advanced manufacturing operations.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen initiatives.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 35 pounds.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
