304 CABLER OPERATOR

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates cabler to strand conductors, forming cable cores.
  • Applies fillers at interstices, binds core with binders.
  • Sets up cabler, changes lay gears (if applicable), loads and unloads, changes dies as necessary, according to process operating instructions.
  • Ensure that the correct SAP/ERP transactions are executed in the system for accurate consumption of materials and for maintaining a smooth process flow.
  • Fills out required reports and monitors quality throughout process.
  • Teamwork is necessary to change cabler over in the most efficient way.
  • Must properly tag all products with accurate data.
  • Effectively uses all products while minimizing scrap.
  • Maintains proper housekeeping to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Precision required in measuring, monitoring and maintaining core or unit O.D.’s. Work with tolerances to 1/10,000 inch.

This description will cover most significant duties performed, but does not exclude other occasional work assignments not mentioned, the inclusion of which would be in conformity with the factor degrees assigned to this job. This job is designed to encompass a range of concurrent and relatively equal responsibilities.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Color perception required.
  • Good physical condition. Strength: to extreme limits when rolling and controlling finished reels, changing gears, etc. (approx. 75 lbs.).
  • Heavy work requirements are intermittent with lighter work requirements.
  • A degree of dexterity required particularly in threading die plates and changing reels. Precision required in measuring, monitoring, and maintaining core or unit O.D.’s.
  • Be able to read and work simple math problems. Work with barcode guns and computers.
  • Degree of organization required.

EQUIPMENT USED

Cabler, to include cage with reel payoffs and filler payoffs, die plates, closing dies and capstan. Computer and bar code guns. In-line equipment to include binder head, fault detection devices, counters, guides, external payoffs and takeup. Support equipment to include reels (metal payoff), power hoist, supply carts, band mike, micrometer, cable cutter, various hand tools, wire scrappers and housekeeping equipment.
