Electromagnetic and Cyber Group (EM&C) is responsible for developing flexible and survivable advanced electronic warfare and secure communications equipment while providing the industry’s leading signals intelligence, electronic warfare, and cyber experts. Metrea specializes in signal classification, direction finding, advanced geolocation techniques, and waveform development including waveforms for MANET and LPI/LPD applications. Metrea also develops special purpose radios for government customers and licenses DF and geolocation solutions to multiple OEMs.
Reporting to the SHADOWLAB Lead Engineer, Electromagnetics and Cyber Group (EM&C), and supporting Metrea’s overall engineering efforts, the Product Technician will join our busy team specializing in state-of-the-art military communications and signals intelligence products. All our teams operate in a small agile environment which allows our engineering personnel to work independently on a wide variety of systems and products. Our mix of product development and R&D also provides our engineering staff with a constant flow of new and interesting projects.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Mechanical & Electrical Assembly
Assemble electronic and electromechanical components, subassemblies, and systems using work instructions, drawings, and bills of material.
2. Follow Work Instructions & Build Documentation
Execute builds exactly as documented, including hardware selection, torque values, cable routing, and assembly sequence; accurately complete travelers and build records.
3. General Lab & Operations Support
Provide hands-on support across the lab and office including material movement, kitting assistance, workspace organization, basic equipment setup, and maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
4. Visual Inspection & First-Pass Quality
Perform visual inspections of own work to identify missing hardware, incorrect parts, workmanship issues, or obvious defects prior to quality review.
5. Tooling, ESD & Material Handling
Properly use hand tools, fixtures, and test equipment; follow ESD, cleanliness, and material handling requirements to protect sensitive hardware.
6. Support Engineering & Production Activities
Assist with prototype builds, rework, testing support, and provide feedback to engineers on assembly challenges or unclear instructions.
Skills and Experience
1. Hands-On Assembly & Tool Use
Experience using basic hand tools (drivers, torque tools, crimpers, calipers) and following step-by-step instructions to assemble mechanical or electronic hardware.
2. Attention to Detail & Ability to Follow Process
Demonstrated ability to accurately follow work instructions, drawings, and checklists; maintain clean work areas; and recognize when something doesn’t look right and ask questions.
3. General Lab, Inventory & Support Work
Experience assisting with material handling, kitting, inventory organization, labeling, and general lab or shop support tasks in a technical or manufacturing environment.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position with typical working hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Non-Exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager.
