Carpenter Co. has an opening for a Product Stewardship Manager at our Reinhart Technical Center (RTC) location in Richmond, Virginia. This position is responsible for leading the response to complex customer regulatory inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate documentation aligned with current regulations.

Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. As the successful candidate, you will be expected to head a team responsible for corporate level activities related to Product Stewardship functions and programs for Carpenter businesses in North America. This position will have 2-4 direct reports.

Your additional responsibilities as the Product Stewardship Manager will include:

  • Lead Corporate level Environmental team that serves Carpenter Co. to help identify and implement new regulations affecting their North American business and operations; team also acts as an internal consultant for environmental-related issues/questions in those businesses/operations
  • Lead Product Stewardship team that supports the North American R&D and businesses in key areas of product compliance to include regulatory assessments, product safety reviews, product regulatory disclosures
  • Lead a Corporate level Industrial Hygiene team responsible for support of North America operations and R&D; team is responsible as an internal consulting group on upcoming and existing industrial hygiene matters and supporting the operations in conjunction with local safety personnel for related matters
  • Interprets existing and changing federal, state and local regulations, assesses impacts on business operations and products, and develops strategies in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team and Legal.
  • Lead development, implementation, and communication of appropriate company, guidelines, policies, standards that assure compliance with applicable regulations and conformance with adopted consensus standards and best practices.
  • Communicate existing policies and implements the adopted strategies that address changes in the regulatory environment in collaboration with the Executive Leadership team, Senior Business Managers and Legal Counsel.
  • Educate and advise Environmental, Industrial Hygiene & Product Stewardship functional leaders and team members on implementing company policies, guidelines and operating procedures to assure compliance and to realize potential business opportunities/advantages.
  • Influence and persuade across different levels and functions to bring about process and technical improvements within the organization.
  • Maintain network of consultants used for specific project activities
  • Support Sustainability Initiatives as it relates to Regulatory Affairs topics
  • Coordinate Environmental, Product Stewardship, and Industrial Hygiene activities with European functions at a global level.
  • Act in an advocacy role as Carpenter representative in industry working groups, networks with industry and governmental contacts to influence regulations, standards, and industry standards/practices.

Skills / Requirements

  • B.S. in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering is required
  • Advanced degree (MS, MBS or JD) is desirable
  • 15+ years of technical industry experience in applicable Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental, or Product Stewardship related; experience in multiple disciplines preferred
  • 7+ years of managerial experience staff of E, IH, and PS professionals
  • Certified Product Steward (CPPS) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred
  • Experience working with professional and trade associations, and interacting with regulatory authorities
