Product Safety Senior Manager-US

Location: Hyderabad, India (Hybrid)

The Product Safety Manager is responsible for evaluating and communicating the health, environmental, and transport hazards of Lonza products throughout their lifecycle. This role ensures compliance with global and regional regulatory requirements by performing hazard classifications, authoring Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), managing product safety data within SAP EHS/S4HANA, and supporting business stakeholders on marketability and compliance matters. The position monitors evolving regulations, drives implementation of regulatory requirements, and serves as a key Product Safety subject matter expert for internal and external partners, with a particular focus on North American regulatory compliance.

What you will do:

  • Perform hazard classifications in accordance with global chemical and transport regulations (GHS, Dangerous Goods regulations, and local requirements) to ensure compliant market entry of products.

  • Author, maintain, and manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and labeling content for customers and internal stakeholders.

  • Document hazard assessments and regulatory information within SAP EHS/S4HANA systems.

  • Analyze and evaluate regulatory requirements and communicate their impact on product marketability and compliance.

  • Monitor, interpret, and implement regulatory changes affecting Product Safety processes, documentation, and tools.

  • Ensure timely provision of mandatory regulatory documentation, including SDSs, label information, Dangerous Goods classifications, and marketability reports.

  • Develop and implement strategies and documentation required to meet local and regional chemical control regulations, with a focus on North America.

  • Support cross-functional stakeholders by utilizing SAP EHS/S4HANA modules related to Product Safety, Labeling, Logistics, and Trade Compliance.

  • Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding product regulatory status and compliance requirements.

  • Deliver regulatory training and guidance to business partners on product safety, marketability, and compliance topics.

  • Support new product introductions and supplier engagement activities from a Product Safety perspective.

  • Maintain and improve documented procedures and processes related to Product Safety operations.

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Product Safety and regulatory compliance initiatives and projects.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.

  • Master’s degree or higher is preferred.

Experience

  • 5–10 years of experience within the biopharmaceutical and/or chemical industry.

  • 5–10 years of hands-on experience with SAP EHS/S4HANA.

  • Experience in product hazard classification, Safety Data Sheet authoring, labeling, and regulatory compliance.

  • Exposure to North American chemical regulations and Dangerous Goods requirements is highly desirable. (OSHA regulations)

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of chemical regulations, GHS, and Dangerous Goods transport regulations (IATA, ADR, DOT, and regional requirements).

  • Proficiency in SAP EHS/S4HANA and Microsoft Excel; experience with regulatory authority-mandated software is an advantage.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project planning skills.

  • Ability to interpret and apply complex regulatory requirements.

  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within global cross-functional teams.

  • Willingness to learn and develop through hands-on experience.

  • Business fluency in English.

Preferred Certifications

  • Dangerous Goods regulations certification for transport and storage issued by IATA and/or regional authorities.
