Job Title: Product Research Lead
Job Location: Carlsbad
Assess and deliver differentiated, scientifically credible, consumer relevant technologies, enabling the brands to stay competitive in a fast-moving landscape.
The role sits at the intersection of science, consumer insights and brand strategy, transforming technologies and trends into sustainable, high-performing products
- Proactive influence and engagement to shape/develop and implement innovation strategy and pipeline to fuel business growth.
- R&D lead for innovation, driving the development of brand and platform innovation initiatives, and ensuring their successful implementation into product development projects.
- Develop science-based and consumer-centric pipeline of innovative technologies and products for our multigenerational platforms.
- Ensure alignment of innovation master plan by brand/category
Key Responsibilities
- UPSTREAM INNOVATION: Build a knowledge base and opportunity landscape to fuel and inspire future innovations.
Identify, assess and drive forward key innovation opportunities, leveraging consumer, technological and scientific insights, competitor watch, and integrating markets insights
Participate to Due Diligence on licensing and Business Development opportunities when applicable
- PROJECTS IDEATION: Partner with Global Marketing and regions to make competitive assessments and develop the Innovation Briefs. Generate and refine innovative product through scientific, technology, positioning/claims and formulation concepts
- PROJECTS EXECUTION: At Feasibility and Development stages, determine whether the concept is technically, scientifically and regulatory feasible. Support the development and qualification of the product to answer the brief
Drive the scientific concepts, technologies / hero ingredients and claims strategy at project level in close collaboration with marketing, regulatory, safety, product development, procurement and operations. Lead and coordinate the product evaluation & sensorial testing to support lead choice validation. Drive the consumers' acceptance qualification to ensure products meet consumer expectations and market needs. Support product claims and artwork development (claims, usage instructions)
- PRODUCTS LAUNCH: Support the marketing and medical teams for the scientific communication (claims, communication supports, HCP's toolkits, videos, trainings to lead markets, FAQs...)
- Represent R&D team at platform and projects level for stage gate governance in the Brand Committee and Portfolio Committee meetings
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry or related field required, or equivalent education and directly related years of experience.
More than 5 years experience within cosmetics or OTC skincare franchise and products development in an international company (having formulation or products research experience will be preferred).
Proven track record of designing, developing and launching innovative cosmetics or OTC products in a FMCG/FMCH international company
Good understanding of the cosmetic environment, Strong consumer mindset, Solid technical formulation skills
Ability to work within multi-functional teams, capacity to manage projects and coordinate teams in complex environments, capacity to challenge and influence
Excellent oral and written communication skills at all levels within the organization, strong technical writing capability
Proficiency in English
About the Compensation:
The base salary range for this role is determined based on several factors. These include but are not limited to job accountabilities; skill sets; experience and training; certifications; work location; competitive market rates and other business needs. At Galderma, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on a unique combination of factors for each role. A reasonable estimate of the hiring range for this role is $85,000 - $125,000.
In addition to base salary, we provide an opportunity to participate in an annual short-term incentive program that is based on corporate performance with a multiplier focused on individual performance.
