PermanentOEM Remanufacturing is Finning’s flagship reman facility rebuilding some of the largest Caterpillar mining equipment in the world. Our Technical Services department is looking for someone like you to join our dynamic production support team.

Reporting to the Technical Product Manager for Engines, The Product Reliability Manager – Engines is responsible for driving reliability performance across OEM Reman engine programs through analysis, issue resolution, and continuous improvement. This role leads implementation of Caterpillar service updates, manages product and quality concerns, and ensures BOM and technical documentation accuracy to support consistent builds.

Working closely with OEM, Finning, and Caterpillar, and supported by a team of Technical Specialists, the position uses reliability data to identify trends, inform technical decisions, and support new product introduction while maintaining high standards of product quality and performance.

  • Review Caterpillar service literature including Service Letters, Service Magazines, and TIBs, and assess applicability to the current engine product offering. Evaluate costs, benefits, and implementation impacts in collaboration with branches, Finning Product Managers, and monthly Product Change Meetings.
  • Coordinate implementation of service publications, including updates to engine specifications, processes, tooling, and parts inventories, along with clear communication of changes.
  • Create and facilitate technical meetings between Finning and Caterpillar, including pulse check discussions and issue reviews.
  • Manage the Document Change Request (DCR) process and report on weekly metrics.
  • Maintain and manage BOM lists and associated notes for engine programs.
  • Support product improvements and material cost reductions through investigation of opportunities and engagement with Caterpillar CPI initiatives.
  • Utilize Caterpillar PSCRM system for collaboration with engineering teams, including issue reporting, parts and specification inquiries, goodwill requests, CAT Reman alignment, and salvage evaluations outside standard guidelines.
  • Co-manage Send-it-Back (SIB) parts within OEM, including processing and execution of shipping documentation.
  • Manage prototype and test engine build programs from initial planning through production implementation, field follow-up, and return teardown analysis, coordinating across OEM, Finning, and Caterpillar teams.
  • Co-chair monthly technical meetings involving OEM, Finning, Caterpillar, and customers (e.g., fleet or model-specific engine groups), including reliability data review, action tracking, and communication of key outcomes.
  • Provide technical review and support for parts supersessions within engine systems.
  • Manage acute parts quality issues, typically related to manufacturing defects.
  • Track and report on key engine component concerns and Initiate Dealer Product Problem Management (DPPM) cases as requested.
  • Support reliability data requests from Finning and customers.
  • Address parts and reliability inquiries from Caterpillar and enterprise customers.
  • Manage and execute New Product Implementation (NPI) processes for new engine offerings, including creation of finished good numbers.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in a related discipline (Mechanical, Metallurgical, Industrial preferred). Experienced Mechanical Engineering Technologists (RET/CET) or Heavy Duty Mechanics will be considered
  • 2–3 years of relevant experience in failure analysis, reliability, or remanufacturing environments
  • Previous Caterpillar dealership or customer support experience is an asset
  • Strong technical knowledge of large mining engines (e.g., C27, C32, C175, 3500, G3600), including all major subsystems (basic engine, fuel systems, air and cooling systems, etc.)
  • Strong root cause analysis capability with high attention to detail
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information both written and verbally
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and OEM ERP systems
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational needs
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Technical Communicator training is an asset
  • AFA 1, 2, and 3 course completion is an asset
  • Commitment to working safely and in compliance with all organizational policies and procedures
