Job Description

Product Owner SAP Supply Planning (m/f)

This role is responsible for the delivery and ongoing support of the Supply Planning product within the planning product line and requires prior technical expertise in SAP (preferably S/4HANA, IBP, APO, or similar ERP planning platforms) to be effective. The Product Owner must possess a strong understanding of ERP data structures, planning logic, integrations, and configuration principles to translate business requirements into technically feasible solutions.

The Product Owner ensures that the Supply Planning product roadmap is translated into well-defined Epics and User Stories, grounded in a deep understanding of system capabilities and constraints, maintained in a prioritized backlog, and delivered by the product team in alignment with business and technical priorities.

Acting as the voice of Supply Planning stakeholders, the Product Owner bridges business and technology, leveraging prior ERP experience to validate requirements, challenge assumptions, and ensure proposed solutions are scalable, compliant with system architecture, and aligned with enterprise standards. Customer expectations are managed through structured planning, execution, and regular sprint playbacks to the business.

The role is accountable for identifying and shaping innovative Supply Planning solutions that deliver measurable value while remaining technically robust, sustainable, and aligned with the broader ERP landscape. Solutions must be intuitive for planners and supply chain teams, yet architecturally sound and deliverable within available resources and agreed timelines.

Any impediments encountered during development will be addressed promptly by the Product Owner, who applies technical acumen to assess root causes, facilitate cross-functional resolution (e.g., with integration, master data, or IT teams), and escalate appropriately to maintain development velocity while safeguarding system integrity and business alignment.

As the subject matter expert for the Supply Planning product, the Product Owner advises the business on system capabilities, configuration options, data dependencies, and integration impacts, while advocating for solutions that optimize the end-to-end supply chain planning process within the SAP or equivalent ERP environment.

  • Lead and support the product team in sprint playbacks to ensure business expectations are met and delivery is aligned to requirements. Facilitate sprint retrospectives to prevent recurring impediments and continuously improve team velocity without compromising quality.
  • Ensure all backlog items meet the Definition of Ready before entering a sprint (e.g., properly sized, complete stories, agreed acceptance criteria). Ensure all items meet the Definition of Done prior to inclusion in sprint demos.
  • Act as the Product SME by communicating product value, features, and benefits to the business. Support the Product Line Strategy Owner in defining and prioritizing the product roadmap. Identify new opportunities to enhance business value and contribute to solution design within the product line.
  • Act as the voice of the Supply Planning product team to leadership. Identify challenges and opportunities to improve Agile processes and overall team effectiveness. Advocate for the team and promote its activities and successes.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Strong IT experience with substantial exposure to developing and supporting Demand and Supply Planning solutions (SAP, APO, IBP, OMP, etc.).
  • Ability to understand CPG and/or Chemical business processes and translate requirements for Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling using APO or S/4 PP/DS.
  • Experience operating in an Agile software development environment using tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
  • Strong understanding of master data relevant to planning and manufacturing, with the ability to recommend appropriate settings to improve planning outcomes.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
