Job Description

MSIG USA continues to grow!

MSIG USA is the US-based subsidiary of MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, Inc., one of the world’s top P&C carriers and a global Class 15 insurer, with A+ ratings and a reach that spans 40+ countries and regions. Leveraging our 350-year heritage, MSIG USA brings the financial strength, expertise, and global footprint to offer commercial insurance solutions that address your business’s unique risks.

The Product Owner serves as the key bridge between Product Development, Underwriting, and Technology, ensuring that solutions effectively support insurance product development, forms authoring, filing workflows, and broader underwriting-domain processes in the Commercial P&C insurance space. This role owns the product vision and roadmap for capabilities that support the end-to-end product development lifecycle while also enabling shared workflows, cross-functional collaboration, and operational execution across the broader underwriting organization.

This role will play a central role in shaping and delivering a Product Workbench that brings together workflow, tooling, search, drafting, notifications, data context, and AI-enabled intelligence into a unified business solution. The Product Owner will partner closely with Product Development, Underwriting, Actuarial, State Filings, Operations, and Technology to replace fragmented manual processes currently spread across email, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, and other point tools with a scalable, integrated solution.

This role requires strong product acumen, systems thinking, first-principles problem solving, and a hands-on solution mindset. The ideal candidate is comfortable working side by side with cross-functional teams to define workflows, shape solution behavior, and apply modern product management principles such as Now / Next / Later planning to sequence delivery and drive business value. This role also requires comfort using modern productivity and AI-enabled tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, and similar technologies to accelerate analysis, drafting, process design, and execution.

Essential Functions

Product Strategy and Planning

  • Partner with Product Management and business leaders across Product Development, Underwriting, Actuarial, State Filings, Operations, and Technology to define and communicate the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Product Workbench capabilities.
  • Own product capabilities that support the end-to-end product development lifecycle, including intake, review, drafting, approvals, filing coordination, notifications, release readiness, and downstream communication.
  • Identify opportunities to improve shared workflows and coordination across the broader underwriting domain, not just within Product Development.
  • Develop and maintain a roadmap for workflow, tooling, and intelligence capabilities that improve how the organization manages forms, filings, product changes, decisions, handoffs, and operational execution.
  • Apply systems thinking to connect upstream and downstream impacts across Product Development, Underwriting, Actuarial, Filings, and Operations when shaping priorities and solution direction.
  • Use modern product management principles, including Now / Next / Later planning, to communicate sequencing, align stakeholders, and focus delivery on the highest-value outcomes.

Backlog Management

  • Own, prioritize, and maintain the product backlog to ensure alignment with product, underwriting, operational, regulatory, and organizational priorities.
  • Translate business needs into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, workflow requirements, process flows, and business rules for Product Workbench capabilities.
  • Partner closely with architects, engineering, data, and business teams to break down complex business problems into scalable, deliverable increments.
  • Balance quick-win enhancements with foundational capabilities such as workflow orchestration, search and discovery, forms intelligence, filing visibility, notifications, audit trails, and reusable outputs.
  • Continuously refine priorities based on stakeholder feedback, business outcomes, product usage, dependencies, and team capacity.
  • Use modern tools and AI-enabled technologies such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, and similar tools to accelerate backlog refinement, requirements drafting, workflow design, and solution exploration while applying sound judgment and governance.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for solution needs across Product Development and connected underwriting-domain stakeholders, including Underwriting, Actuarial, State Filings, Operations, and Technology.
  • Facilitate workshops and discovery sessions to understand current-state processes, pain points, handoffs, approval paths, filing requirements, and opportunities for workflow and automation improvements.
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to design practical, scalable solutions that support both product-specific work and broader cross-functional execution across the underwriting domain.
  • Drive shared understanding of business process, technical constraints, dependencies, and implementation tradeoffs.
  • Coordinate with training and change management teams to support adoption, readiness, and rollout of new capabilities.
  • Foster a product- and solution-oriented mindset, ensuring that enhancements improve speed, transparency, consistency, governance, and ease of execution across the business.

Sprint Planning and Execution

  • Lead sprint planning and backlog refinement for the Product Workbench team, articulating sprint goals, priorities, and expected business value.
  • Ensure user stories are well-defined, refined, and ready for development, with clear acceptance criteria, workflow context, business rules, and test scenarios.
  • Collaborate closely with delivery leads, engineers, analysts, designers, QA, and data teams to deliver high-quality releases.
  • Participate actively in daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to monitor progress, remove blockers, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Validate completed work against acceptance criteria and coordinate user acceptance testing with business stakeholders to ensure solutions meet business needs and quality standards.
  • Work hands-on with the team to shape workflows, prototype ideas, refine requirements, and guide solution decisions using modern collaboration and AI-assisted tools where appropriate.

Qualifications/Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Product Owner, Senior Business Analyst, Product Manager, or similar role.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in Commercial P&C insurance, with strong exposure to product development, underwriting operations, forms, filings, or related business processes strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with insurance product development processes, including forms authoring, filing coordination, regulatory workflows, and bureau-related interactions strongly preferred.
  • Experience defining and delivering workflow-driven, document-centric, or platform-based business solutions preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working closely with engineering, architecture, and data teams to deliver technology solutions in Agile environments.
  • Experience working within Agile frameworks required.
  • Familiarity with insurance platforms and related ecosystem tools preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of Commercial P&C insurance product development processes, including forms, filings, approvals, and release coordination, as well as related underwriting-domain workflows.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and bureau-related processes, including interactions involving departments of insurance, ISO, AAIS, and similar organizations.
  • Strong product acumen, systems thinking, and solution mindset, with the ability to translate business needs into scalable solutions across Product Development and connected underwriting functions.
  • Ability to apply first-principles thinking to analyze complex problems, simplify fragmented processes, and define practical paths forward.
  • Familiarity with modern product management principles and prioritization approaches, including Now / Next / Later planning for roadmap communication and sequencing.
  • Ability to create clear user stories, acceptance criteria, workflow requirements, and process improvements.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across Product Development, Underwriting, Actuarial, Operations, and Technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work hands-on with delivery teams to shape and implement solutions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with SharePoint, Power BI, Power Platform, and Azure DevOps preferred.
