Product Owner – Murex, Global Markets

We are looking for an experienced Product Owner to join one of our Global Markets Murex squads and help deliver on our key Strategic Priorities across our Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities business. This role requires someone who can take a strategic view of our processes, understand the broader business problem, challenge whether the right problem is being solved, and shape better end-to-end outcomes for customers, colleagues and the Markets business. You will work across front office, operations, technology, risk, compliance, finance and platform teams to bring structure to a complex backlog, make clear prioritisation decisions, and guide the squad toward practical, strategic and sustainable solutions.

Global Markets is a department of IB&M and is responsible for activities across Fixed Income, Currencies, Commodities and Carbon products. Markets has offices across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, London and New York.

The Global Markets Domain crews are responsible for delivering technology change and business improvement across critical Markets platforms. These crews work closely with business, operations, risk, compliance and technology stakeholders to deliver better product outcomes, strengthen controls and support the future direction of Global Markets. Murex is a core platform supporting key Markets processes across trade capture, trade lifecycle, risk, operations and downstream processing. The successful candidate will play an important role in improving how Murex-enabled processes work across the front-to-back value chain.

Do work that matters

Reporting to the Crew Lead for the relevant Global Markets crew, you will own and refine a backlog of process, platform and business problems related to Murex. You will help the squad focus on the highest-value outcomes, clarify business intent, and ensure delivery is connected to broader Markets strategy. You will need to navigate a long and complex backlog, competing stakeholder priorities, and processes that cut across multiple teams. Success will require strong product ownership, structured problem-solving, stakeholder influence and the ability to translate ambiguity into clear, sequenced delivery outcomes.

Your responsibilities

As Product Owner, you will:

  • Own, refine and prioritise the Murex squad backlog in line with OKR4, customer journey simplification and Global Markets strategy.
  • Work with front office, operations, finance, risk, compliance and technology teams to understand process breaks, manual workarounds, control issues and customer impacts.
  • Step back from individual Jira items to assess the broader end-to-end process, identify root causes, and shape more efficient and sustainable solutions.
  • Translate complex business problems into clear outcomes, requirements, epics, features and user stories for the delivery squad.
  • Provide day-to-day product direction to engineers, business analysts and delivery teams, ensuring the squad understands the customer, business and operational context.
  • Make clear prioritisation decisions using value, risk, customer impact, operational efficiency, regulatory need and strategic alignment.
  • Challenge low-value demand, duplicate requests or tactical fixes where a better process or platform outcome is possible.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across multiple teams to manage competing priorities, dependencies, risks and delivery trade-offs.
  • Support release planning, acceptance criteria, testing, implementation readiness and business adoption.
  • Identify and manage risks, controls, dependencies and compliance considerations across the Murex product area.
  • Support the Crew Lead in delivering crew objectives and broader Global Markets OKRs.
  • Stay connected to the future direction of Markets, including platform simplification, workflow automation, data quality, control uplift and practical AI opportunities.

We’re interested in hearing from people who:

  • Have strong experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager or senior business/technology change professional in a complex environment.
  • Have a strong understanding of Financial Markets processes, including front office, trade execution, trade lifecycle, risk, operations, collateral, finance or back-office processes.
  • Understand Murex or similar trading, risk or post-trade platforms. Direct Murex experience is highly desirable but not essential for candidates with strong Markets and product ownership capability.
  • Are skilled in backlog refinement, prioritisation, roadmap planning, stakeholder management and delivery sequencing.
  • Can move between strategic thinking and delivery detail, knowing when to challenge the problem statement and when to drive execution.
  • Have strong problem-solving skills and can identify root causes rather than only treating symptoms.
  • Are comfortable navigating ambiguity, long-standing process issues and difficult stakeholder environments.
  • Can influence across senior business stakeholders, technology teams, operations, risk and compliance.
  • Bring a customer and colleague experience mindset, with a focus on simplifying journeys and reducing avoidable friction.
  • Are curious about the future of Markets technology, including workflow automation, data-driven decision-making and practical AI-enabled productivity improvements.

You will be successful in this role if you can bring order to complexity. You will need to balance strategic thinking with delivery discipline, build trust with stakeholders who may have competing priorities, and help the squad focus on outcomes that genuinely improve the way Global Markets works. The right person will not simply administer a backlog. They will shape it, challenge it, improve it and connect it to better customer, business and control outcomes. This is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in simplifying critical Markets processes and helping shape the future direction of our Murex platform and front-to-back operating model.
