Senior Product Owner – Government Schemes (Help to Buy)

Retail Banking Services (RBS) is the public face of CommBank, serving more than 10 million personal and small business customers. Within RBS, the Home Buying domain is responsible for delivering commercially sustainable home lending outcomes while maintaining high standards of customer experience, product integrity and regulatory compliance.

Supporting ongoing growth in Government Schemes, we have a Senior Product Owner opportunity within the Channel Engagement and Specialty Product Crew, focused on shared equity schemes, primarily Help to Buy. This role is suited to an experienced product person with strong strategic judgement, autonomy and influence, requiring clear roadmap ownership and disciplined execution in a highly regulated, policy-driven environment.

The team holds end-to-end accountability for the Help to Buy customer and operational experience, spanning product strategy, process design, automation, governance and performance. The role is accountable for defining and delivering the strategic roadmap for Help to Buy, with a strong emphasis on automation to streamline manual processes, improve operational efficiency, and enable faster customer application and approval outcomes, while ensuring robust in-life processes that minimise risk and avoid unnecessary customer delays.

Do work that matters
As a Senior Product Owner, you act as the strategic and delivery lead for Help to Buy, partnering closely with stakeholders across in risk, operations and technology to translate policy intent and business strategy into deliverable outcomes. You will drive automation-led transformation of manual processes, enabling faster approvals, reduced operational overhead, and improved customer and operational experiences within a high-visibility problem space.

In this role, you will

  • Define and own the product vision, roadmap and prioritised initiatives for Help to Buy, aligning government scheme requirements with business and customer outcomes
  • Drive automation and digitisation of end-to-end processes, reducing manual intervention, improving processing times, and enhancing consistency and scalability
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including government stakeholders, risk, legal, operations and technology to manage dependencies and deliver compliant, high-quality outcomes
  • Identify and remove customer and operational pain points across application, approval and in-life journeys, ensuring faster turnaround times and reduced friction
  • Balance customer experience improvements with operational risk and regulatory obligations, ensuring solutions meet governance and compliance requirements
  • Use data and insights to identify bottlenecks, validate opportunities and continuously improve performance across customer and operational metrics

We’re interested in hearing from people who have

  • Strong Product Owner or Product Management experience within Financial Services or similarly regulated environments
  • Demonstrated experience defining and delivering product roadmaps, particularly where automation and process optimisation are key
  • Proven ability to simplify complex processes and deliver scalable, customer-centric solutions
  • Experience working across and leading cross-functional teams and influencing stakeholders in complex, matrixed organisations
  • Strong understanding of operational risk, governance and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, actionable outcomes
  • Strong analytical capability and a track record of delivering meaningful improvements in customer experience and operational efficiency
