Product Owner – Control & Protection Platforms

Location: Stafford, United Kingdom, or Berlin, Germany, or Paris/Issy-les-Moulineaux, France, or Lyon/Villeurbanne, France, or Tampere, Finland
Contract type: Permanent
Working arrangement: Hybrid

Help shape the technology behind the energy transition

As a Product Owner for Control & Protection Platforms, you play a central role in defining the hardware platforms that support advanced grid technologies used around the world. Your work helps enable reliable power transmission, stronger grid stability, and greater integration of renewable energy.

You join a global product management environment where you connect business needs, technical strategy, and long-term platform development. In this role, you guide the evolution of critical control and protection platforms so they remain scalable, reliable, secure, and ready for the future.

What you will do

You define and drive the strategy, roadmap, and lifecycle of control and protection hardware platforms used across high-voltage direct current and flexible alternating current transmission solutions.

You will:

  • Shape the product roadmap for hardware platforms, including performance, input/output architecture, communication, reliability, cybersecurity, and long-term maintainability

  • Build reusable platform capabilities that support multiple applications and solutions

  • Align platform evolution with market needs, customer expectations, system requirements, and technology trends

  • Manage the product catalogue, including platform capabilities, variants, configurations, and lifecycle status

  • Own product-level requirements and ensure they connect clearly to wider system and solution needs

  • Guide decisions on platform selection for new solution development

  • Support lifecycle planning, component strategy, and obsolescence management

  • Work closely with engineering, systems, software, supply chain, and commercial teams to ensure strong platform integration and delivery readiness

  • Contribute to supplier and sourcing decisions that improve availability, competitiveness, and delivery performance

  • Champion compliance with cybersecurity, safety, regulatory, and sustainability requirements

  • Support business case development, cost optimisation, and investment planning for the platform portfolio

What you bring

You bring strong product ownership or platform leadership experience in hardware, embedded systems, industrial control, or closely related technology environments.

You are likely to have:

  • Experience defining product strategy, roadmaps, and lifecycle plans for complex technical platforms

  • A strong understanding of real-time systems, hardware architectures, and system integration

  • Experience working with control and protection systems, embedded platforms, or industrial automation technologies

  • Knowledge of communication and interface standards used in power or industrial environments, including IEC 61850

  • Confidence working across technical and business teams and bringing stakeholders together around a clear direction

  • A structured approach to decision-making, prioritisation, and long-term planning

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex topics clearly

It would be helpful if you also have experience in power systems, grid technologies, or platforms used in high-voltage transmission applications, though this is not essential if you bring relevant transferable experience.

Why this role matters

This is an opportunity to influence technology that sits at the heart of modern power systems. You help create platforms that are used across major grid infrastructure projects and that support more resilient, efficient, and sustainable electricity networks.

Your work has visible impact: you enable reuse across solutions, improve long-term platform value, and help deliver technology that supports the transition to a lower-carbon energy future.

What you can expect

You can expect a role with scope, visibility, and real technical influence in an international environment. You work with expert teams across product management, engineering, and delivery, and you help shape platform decisions with long-term business and technology impact.

Our hybrid working approach gives you flexibility while supporting strong collaboration across locations and teams.

Ready to make an impact?

If you are motivated by product strategy, platform thinking, and technology that helps transform the global energy landscape, we would love to hear from you.

Apply today and help shape the next generation of control and protection platforms.
