Hybrid WorkingThe purpose of the Product Owner is the overall ownership for a single product backlog which contains 2-3 features, journeys or technology components. They are typically a Lab or Team Lead (containing 2-3 Feature or Component teams), reporting into the Business Platform Lead or Lab Lead. This role is responsible to oversee the release of incremental value within an overall product, with the primary aim of delivering value to customers and stakeholders by ensuring the team focuses on the right priorities.

Role responsibilities:
• Supports development of Lab or Team OKRs and provides product performance and benefits realisation data
• Defines user-stories at Lab or Team level to meet customer needs
• Works with Customer Journey Manager to analyse user stories for customer journey improvements
• Shapes Product vision and roadmap at Lab or Team level
• Prioritises, refines and manages Lab or Team Product backlog
• Accountable for Product change governance (e.g., CMIA / SPFIA) and Business Readiness activities (e.g., training and comms, testing and readiness for implementation) for their respective features, journeys or technology components. Note: PO’s are accountable but activities to be delivered by the whole ‘team’.
• Plays a role in developing capabilities within their functional area and invests in personal and team growth through mentoring and other informal methods
• Works with Integrators when change is particularly large

Additional responsibilities for Technical Lab or Team Product Owners:
• Owns and manages the product backlog for a Group-wide technology asset
• Develops technical design for the product
• Delivers against a product budget, performing financial and data analysis
• Manages all product risk
• Defines the segmentation and supplier strategy
• Environment Planning and other technical activities

The Team

The Finance Data Transformation Lab are a group of Product Owners, Integrators, Customer Journey Managers, Business Agility Leads and Engineers supporting Finance. We have a passion for the strategically sourcing data through data products for Finance to use in all its downstream processing, and a desire to improve the way we deliver change. We are hugely proud of the relationship we have built with our partners and users, adding visible value to Finance with our ability to react to change whilst keeping a strong focus on the control environment. We work in an agile and collaborative manner, continuously learning, improving, and sharing knowledge with the wider team.

Key Accountabilities

  • Define the team's objectives & key results, working with stakeholders to align to our strategic priorities for the product.
  • Realise product vision by leading a team to deliver product feature releases working closely with engineering, ensuring that we deliver a great service to clients.
  • Shape the product roadmap. Prioritise, refine and manage the backlog, making data led decisions to prioritise across different business objectives. Promotes agile methodology within the team and works with a test and learn approach.
  • Responsible for ensuring all decisions are made within a sound risk framework and within Group standards and appetite.
  • Support partners with both technical and non-technical backgrounds, articulating business requirements and changes.

What we need from you?

  • A solid knowledge of Data and Finance (Ledger, Costs, Planning, Reporting) and services with a detailed knowledge of the Finance lifecycle and risk management requirements is a must.
  • Knowledge of the Data control environment
  • Prior experience working within an Agile environment, experience working with software engineering teams and strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Prior experience of managing complex delivery and championing the voice of the customer when defining priorities
  • Have strong interpersonal skills, be comfortable working with and presenting to senior stakeholders.
  • Technical knowledge, a good understanding of the principles of system design and high-level architecture. Detailed knowledge of risk management and reporting systems.
  • Proficient with Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio and JIRA.
  • Experience leading and mentoring others.
  • An accountancy qualification is an advantage.

Specific Product Knowledge of Finance Data & processes

  • Cost, Month End, Planning and Reporting Data What’s important, how it is sourced, validated, and used for month end close, planning, reporting and investment management.
  • Data Products Understanding data strategy, data management and data products.
