The department of Alberta Mental Health and Addiction is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction, including the development of, implementation, monitoring, and compliance with policy, legislation, and standards for mental health and addiction services, as well as proactive monitoring of substance use and mental health data to support system planning.
The Department works with the newly established Recovery Alberta, the new Canadian Centre of Recovery Excellence, and community service providers and partners to design and enhance Alberta’s new mental health and addiction system, leveraging policy, practice innovations and research and evaluation to enable the best possible outcomes for Albertans. The Department works closely with other cross-government partners, external organizations, other Canadian provinces, and the Government of Canada to plan addiction and mental health service delivery. This Ministry liaises with the Office of the Alberta Health Advocates and Alberta Health Services. We have an exciting opportunity for you to join Mental Health & Addiction as a Product Owner. This position is responsible for championing digital transformation and representing the Ministry within a product team. Reporting to the Manager of Digital Operations and Modernization, the Product Owner will be a member of the Product Team and will be responsible for overall product strategy, ministry stakeholders, long-term vision for the product, and ministry processes and procedures to meet the business needs and champion the product to end users. This position also coordinates between the product team and program area staff to deliver technology solutions that enable cross-sector collaboration in strategic initiatives (e.g., Compassionate Intervention Legislation) in support of the Alberta Recovery Model. All work is conducted with the goal of ensuring Mental Health and Addiction’s interests and priorities are effectively represented and balanced with the needs of Albertans in addiction and mental health initiatives, projects, and activities. This position will primarily support the implementation of new legislation (e.g., Compassionate Intervention Legislation) and other priority projects through new digital services.
The system is multi-faceted, covering a breadth of topics and populations (e.g., addiction, mental health, Indigenous, youth, operating grants, research and innovation of services), with multiple stakeholders (e.g., community organizations, Recovery Alberta and other provincial health agencies, national organizations, advocacy groups), and connects to several other government portfolios (e.g., Infrastructure, Public Safety and Emergency Services, Justice, Technology and Innovation, Children’s Services, Community and Social Services).

A University degree in a related field (e.g. Commerce, Business, Public Administration, Economics, Political Science, Statistics, Technology) plus 4 years progressively related experience.
Required experience:
Equivalencies may be considered: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience, or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
