About the role

We have an outstanding opportunity for a Product Manager to join Tesco’s Pricing and Promotions team, part of the wider Retail Platform Team. Our mission is to deliver flexible pricing capabilities by building a compliant, secure, robust, performant, and scalable platform that enables our commercial business users to set, update and publish prices and promotions across our entire Tesco store and digital estate.

Reporting to the Lead Product Manager in the UK, you will work alongside other Product Managers, Engineers, Data Analysts and Technical Programme Managers, to help define the vision and strategy for your Product. In the Promotion Publish team, you will focus on making sure Tesco is reliably and robustly enabling the setup of promotions, which is a critical function for Tesco. Promotions are central to the value we offer customers and are complex to manage at scale. You will become the expert in how promotions work at Tesco and partner closely with our Commercial and Customer teams to translate that complexity into clear, reliable and intuitive product capabilities. This is part of our wider Pricing platform which powers all the colleague pricing and customer checkout transactions at Tesco, across all the countries where we sell to customers. It is in support of Tesco’s core purpose and values.

Alongside running and improving a critical service, you will apply a strong product lens to shape its path to maturity. Working closely with the stakeholders and other technology teams you will identify gaps in our current promotion capabilities to make promotion management easier, faster and more dependable. You will be responsible for

Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures.

• Engage with stakeholders to formulate the vision, strategy and long-term roadmap for my product and execute it well by constantly managing stakeholders’ expectations, communicating value delivered, and working through dependencies across multiple products/ teams.
• Effectively present the vision, roadmap, key KPIs and execution plans (release/ sprint plans) for my product.
• Navigate and resolve competing priorities.
• Understand key user personas, customers and stakeholders for the product and their pain points.
• Lead discovery work to understand and drive use cases for my APIs to deliver one solution that can be re-used for them all.
• Drive experiments against defined hypotheses, created MVPs towards robust data-driven decisions on product improvements and their influence on product performance indicators.
• Work alongside research, design, analytics, and engineering teams to design and develop solutions to solve real business needs.
• Manage multiple requests from stakeholders to set up promotions and understand value versus effort to support trade off conversations.
• Effectively document and explain new requirements to the engineering team using user stories, personas, and acceptance tests and help the team in breaking down a complex piece of work / epic into smaller, deliverable chunks of value that can be delivered faster.
• Steer sprint / release planning sessions by working with engineering counterparts to plan sprints / releases that deliver maximum business value with the least effort.
• Understand and demonstrate the features of my product to different audiences within and outside of my immediate product team.
• Accountable for tracking key measures of success (OKRs) and the resulting performance / adoption of my product and work towards increasing it.
• Drive the acceptance and adoption of ideas and improvements with product and engineering stakeholders.
• Present to other Tesco Product areas on my Product and its functional / engineering capabilities.
• Monitor competitor activity and overseas market trends.
• Communicate and support the resolution of live product issues independently.
• Work as part of a wider product team, with a culture for shared goals, helping where appropriate as the need arises.

You will need

• Experience of using Product Management best practice and methodologies (particularly Agile ones) to discover, design, define, develop, and deliver small increments that will drive growth and value for the product.
• Experience in creating a product vision and strategy and how they are used to align teams to collaborate and prioritise work around a shared outcome.
• Ability to build strong relationships across Business and Technology stakeholders.
• Proven success in knowing who the different customers that use a product are, identifying factors that influence and impact customer behaviour, and using the outputs from customer engagement sessions to influence the product roadmap.
• Experience of using experimentation to validate ideas and hypotheses.
• Experience of how to use relevant tools to produce and update roadmaps for my product.
• An understanding of the value that the User Experience (UX) and User Interface Design (UI) disciplines bring to products.
• Preferable, but not critical, is to have previous experience in a Pricing domain and / or with APIs.
