About the role:

Sun King is looking for a Product Manager – Enterprise Products, based in Shenzhen. You will report to the Head of Product, Enterprise Products.

You will own the software layer of our connected devices. That covers our firmwares for our IOT products including our in-house firmware and the external firmwares, particularly phone MDMs. It also covers the applications we build on the data those devices produce. You will also own the internal systems / automations that are required in the manufacturing, quality-check and logistics life cycle.

This is not a hardware product management role. You will not design the devices. You will decide what the software on them does, and what we build on the data they generate. The work needs real technical depth. You will work closely with embedded, data and operations teams. You should want to automate what is still manual.

We are looking for someone who has built software applications for IoT products. We also want an AI-first approach to product management. You reach for an LLM before opening a document. You prototype before writing a specification.

The role covers end-to-end product management. That means requirements gathering, workflow design, testing, stakeholder coordination and rollouts.

What you will be expected to do

Systems you will own

1. In-house firmware, as a product

• Own the requirements and roadmap for our proprietary firmware and its companion applications, translating field, customer and business needs into device behaviour.
• Own over-the-air firmware release planning and rollout — staged deployment, rollback strategy, and adoption tracking across a large installed base.
• Work with embedded engineering to prioritise between new capability, reliability and field-serviceability.

1. Device management and provisioning

• Own the software side of the device lifecycle: mobile device management (MDM) integrations, enrolment and provisioning journeys, policy and security configuration.
• Design the operational processes that surround enrollment at scale, and work with market teams to make them workable in the field.
• Manage integrations with external firmware and third-party device platforms.

1. Applications built on connected-device data

• Own the products built on top of the telemetry our devices generate — end-user and internal applications, analytics and data exploration tools.
• Own the underlying data definitions: what the devices report, at what fidelity and frequency, and how that contract evolves as firmware and applications change on either side of it.
• Maintain and improve the pipelines and interfaces through which this data reaches the business.

1. Manufacturing and quality systems

• Partner with manufacturing, procurement, quality and logistics teams to build and improve systems and automations for their processes.
• Digitise shop-floor workflows and give the business visibility into throughput, yield and quality.

1. Supply chain and logistics automation

• Identify manual, document-heavy processes across logistics and build systems that automate paperwork generation, approvals and shipment status tracking.

How you will Work

1. Product discovery and problem framing

• Work with stakeholders including customers, agents, operations, field teams, and business leads to identify workflow pain points.
• Document opportunities as structured briefs rather than simple ticket descriptions.
• Use AI to synthesize inputs, identify patterns, and convert ambiguity into actionable solutions.

1. Prototype before spec

• Build working proofs-of-concept using LLM APIs, automation tools, or lightweight scripts.
• Validate whether an AI-first approach solves the problem effectively.
• Ship quickly and learn even faster.

1. Documentation and handoffs

• Create sharp, handoff-ready documentation such as use cases, flow charts, PRDs, and system requirements.
• Use AI in documentation workflows but ensure accuracy by catching errors that AI may introduce.

1. Execution and rollouts

• Coordinate releases, manage testing, and track adoption.
• Resolve stakeholder queries and issues through WhatsApp, ticketing tools, and email.
• Own rollout sequencing and ensure readiness across teams.

1. Automation and data

• Identify repetitive business processes and automate them using reliable tools.
• Perform regular assessments to track, monitor, and drive product usage.

1. Collaboration

• Work closely with cross-functional groups and the development team throughout the product lifecycle.
• Keep stakeholders informed at every stage.

You might be a strong candidate if you have/are

• A bachelor’s degree in Engineering (mandatory).
• 3–5 years of prior professional experience in product management,
• Experience building software applications for IoT or connected-hardware products, or working closely with embedded/firmware teams.
• Ability to structure and analyze ambiguous problems.
• Clear communication skills across workflows, feature descriptions, Slack messages, and stakeholder updates.
• Comfort working across teams you have no authority over, and the patience to keep making a case with evidence rather than volume.
• Travel as required to Sun King markets and manufacturing / vendor sites.
• Professional working proficiency in Mandarin (mandatory) — you will work daily with manufacturing, quality and vendor teams in China.
• Professional working proficiency in English (mandatory) — you will work with colleagues, field teams and stakeholders across our markets in Africa and Asia, and all product documentation is written in English.
• Hands-on experience with SQL.
• Working understanding of how connected devices report data — telemetry, cellular/GSM connectivity, data definitions, and over-the-air update mechanics. You will not write firmware, but you must be able to reason about it with the engineers who do.
• Comfort with APIs and integrations, including third-party device management platforms.
• Experience working with data to track and push product usage.
• A GitHub profile or portfolio with shipped prototypes, automations, or internal tools.
• Evidence of LLM and AI foundations (Anthropic courses, fast.ai, DeepLearning.AI, or equivalent self-learning).
• Comfortable using AI tools to build small automations, prototypes and internal tools.
• Experience with manufacturing execution, quality control or shop-floor systems.
• Experience with supply chain, logistics or trade documentation workflows.
• Python or another scripting language for extraction, reconciliation and one-off analysis.
• Exposure to pay-as-you-go, asset finance, microfinance or emerging-market lending.
