Job Description

At ING, we have bold ambitions to improve the digital experience for our customers while empowering people’s financial health and making a positive societal impact. To deliver on this, we are looking for a Product Manager to take the helm of our core Data Lake and international Data Platform. Are you the visionary leader who not only sets a point on the horizon but translates it into a rock-solid strategy? We are looking for an experienced manager to manage and transform our platform into a strategic, stable 'Data Platform as a Service' proposition.

The Team

As the Lead Data Platform, you are the end-to-end owner of this vital IT asset. You navigate effortlessly through a complex matrix organization (reporting hierarchically to the IT Area Lead and functionally to the Tribe lead Data Management) to bring calm, structure, and execution power. You manage all relevant stakeholders from Products leads in NL, Data Governance and to delivery managers in Belgium. This global asset has global exposure.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Vision & Roadmap (Digital Strategy): You conceptualize the digital strategy and translate abstract organizational goals into a prioritized roadmap with quarterly objectives. You are the driving force behind data-driven product and service improvements.
  • Complex Stakeholder Management: You bridge the gap between business (commerce), data and IT. By integrating diverse perspectives—and using stories, visuals and metaphors to visualize dilemmas—you build wide consensus across functional boundaries and tribes.
  • Backlog & Delivery Management: As the Innovation Owner, you manage ambiguity through agility and refine the backlog and set the right priorities to maximize business value. You champion a 'One Agile Way of Working,' combining flexibility with the robustness of traditional governance where needed.
  • First Line Risk & Compliance: Within a highly regulated environment, you take ownership of managing financial and non-financial risks. You seamlessly integrate IT security risks, SOx compliance and compliance-by-design (e.g., GDPR, BCBS239) into processes.
  • Change Management & Leadership: You inspire, motivate and guide a platform team of approx. 35 FTE through organizational and digital transitions. Strong in communication and quick to build trust with stakeholders and your teams. You build a cross-functional team and keep daily operations running smoothly ("keeping the shop open") while modernizing the foundations.
  • IT Asset Health & Change Coordination Acting as the mandated IT Asset Owner, you monitor the IT-health of product teams and their assets. You take on the role of change coordinator, staying on top of CI/CD pipelines, guiding teams through automated deployments, and validating IT changes.
  • Craftsmanship & Team Development You actively build the craftsmanship of the employees within the squads, aligning their diverse skills and perspectives with the broader strategy of the Tribe Data Management and IT Area.

How to succeed
We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you’ll stay curious. Keep learning. Take on responsibility. In return, we’ll back you to develop into an even more awesome version of yourself.

  • Education & Core Experience: You hold a Master’s degree (e.g., MSc.BA) and have over 15 years of broad, strategic relevant working experience.
  • Data Platform Leadership: Minimum 7+ years of demonstrable experience in similar strategic roles, specifically focusing on leading and shaping Data Platforms and large datalakes.
  • Matrix Organization Leadership: Minimum 7+ years of demonstrable experience in directing and managing multiple teams within a complex matrix organization and complex stakeholder management.
  • Risk Management (Financial Industry): Minimum 7+ years of demonstrable experience with first-line risk management, regulatory requirements (including SOx), and compliance specifically within the financial industry.
  • Delivery Management (Financial Industry): Demonstrable experience in end-to-end delivery management within the financial sector, adept at navigating strict governance while realizing project benefits and business value.
  • Change Management & Transitions: A proven track record in change management, successfully initiating movement and driving organizational transitions within large data platforms and cross-functional teams.
  • Technical Acumen: Deep technical affinity and proven experience with Platform management and Data solutions (e.g., (Hybrid) Data Warehousing, Data Lakes, Streaming data, AI/ML, BI, Cloud migrations, working with Architecture and standardized Data Products). Experience with CI/CD pipeline development and automated deployments is essential. Experience gained at top-tier public/private organizations or major logistical hubs is a massive plus.
  • Personality: You are persistent, pragmatic, and highly result-oriented . You show courage by tackling tough issues directly, know how to push back, and can explain complex matters simply.
