Job Description

About us

Southern Cross Health Insurance is shaping a healthier Aotearoa New Zealand. Our purpose is simple: empowering our members to live well for longer. We're here to give peace of mind through timely access to quality care, inspire healthier living, and lead positive change across the health system. As a New Zealand-owned, member-based organisation, we're building a future where wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do -- delivering exceptional value for our members and creating an environment where our people thrive.

Now is an exciting time to join us. You'll be part of a high-performing, values-driven team where people are at the heart of everything we do -- and in return for your talent, you'll have the opportunity to grow, make an impact, and be proud of the difference your work makes.

About the role

We're looking for a Product Manager to join our Customer Growth team in a permanent capacity.

This is a unique opportunity to step into a role that will evolve alongside our product operating model. Initially, your focus will be on enabling successful product delivery, driving value through prioritisation, stakeholder alignment and execution. Over time, the role will broaden to include greater ownership of product strategy, customer discovery, product vision and outcome measurement.

You'll work closely with delivery, engineering, design and business stakeholders to ensure the right problems are being solved and that product investments deliver meaningful outcomes for our members and organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Owning and prioritising the product backlog to maximise customer and business value.
  • Partnering with stakeholders across Product, Technology and the business to deliver meaningful outcomes.
  • Driving product delivery, prioritisation and release planning.
  • Using customer insights and data to inform decisions and shape future improvements.
  • Influencing stakeholders and contributing to the ongoing evolution of our product practice.

About you

You may already be operating as a Product Manager, or you may be an experienced Product Owner ready to step into a broader product leadership role.

To be successful, you'll bring:

  • Experience as a Product Manager, Product Owner or in a similar product-focused role.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
  • A customer-centric mindset with the ability to balance customer, business and delivery needs.
  • Strong prioritisation and decision-making capability in complex environments.
  • The ability to use data and insights to drive outcomes and influence decisions.
  • A collaborative approach and a passion for continuous improvement.

Experience within regulated industries or complex enterprise environments would be advantageous but is not essential. This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery and wants to help shape the future direction of a product capability.

Our values: who we are and what's important to us

Ngākau nui. Āhurutanga. Tikanga.

Join a team that's always there, always real, always true. If you thrive in a purpose-driven, diverse and supportive culture, we think you'll love working with us.

What we offer you

  • Five days of wellbeing leave per year (pro-rated for part-timers)
  • Health insurance for you and your immediate whānau
  • Life insurance cover and discounts on pet and travel insurance
  • Extra parental leave benefits and financial wellbeing support
  • Access to our workplace wellbeing programme

But that's not all. We offer work-life balance, a hybrid working environment and a volunteer day each year to give back to a cause or community that matters to you.

We are proud to have taken the Pride Pledge, reflecting our commitment to inclusion and belonging. We also facilitate an active, employee‑led Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Forum, which includes our Rainbow Network, Māori Network, Pasifika Collective, and Neurodiversity and Whānau Support networks.

If you share our commitment and passion, we'd love to hear from you.
