Product Vision and Strategy

The Product Manager – Energy will help establish and support the product vision for the Energy segments, in concert with the Sr. Product Manager and deep market understanding, to inform the core and new product strategy. The candidate will develop services that align with our segment’s growth strategies. The Product Manager will also support and contribute to the go-to-market strategy for the following services: Distributed Energy Resources (DER), Grid Code Compliance (GCC) and Electrical Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE); developing business cases for new services, capabilities, and capacity; lead product management efforts, including defining product requirements, developing specifications, and managing the product lifecycle; describing how value will be delivered to the customer/user, how UL Solutions products are differentiated from the competition, and what the business model should be in a given market. This includes prioritization of product functions and features into a global product roadmap. The Product Manager monitors a set of product goals, outcomes and corresponding metrics to continually evaluate against and drive future activities and strategies. Evangelizing and communicating the product vision, strategy and goals internally and externally is a critical responsibility of this role.

• Use the previously established product vision in concert with deep market understanding to inform the product strategy
• Evaluate market needs against UL’s and competitors’ unique abilities to address them
• Support and contribute to a go-to-market strategy, describing how value will be delivered to the customer/user, how the product is differentiated from the competition, and what the business model should be
• Prioritize product functions and features into a product roadmap
• Monitor a set of product goals, outcomes and corresponding metrics to continually evaluate against
• Evangelize and communicate the product vision, strategy and goals internally across the organization, as well as externally with client users
• Actively model and promote a set of desired behaviors aligned with UL’s WoW
• Take ownership of own career and professional development by documenting and communicating career aspirations and any associated development needs to their manager
• Support career development needs of direct reports, by clearly defining expectations for their current role, actively soliciting their career aspirations and helping close any gaps
• Support an efficient cross-functional matrix structure to enable effective product development lifecycle
• Execute a robust set of processes to power all parts of the product development lifecycle from research/discovery to release management and product support
• Leverage a standard set of product management tools to be used across the product organization at each of the stages of the lifecycle

Product Organization and Processes

A successful Product Manager will support an efficient cross-functional matrix structure to enable effective product development lifecycle management. They will execute a robust set of processes to power all parts of the product development lifecycle from research/discovery to release/launch management and product support.

Technical Skills

• Facilitation skills – ability to lead small to medium groups of internal and external stakeholders towards desired outcomes in order to meet business objectives
• Interview skills – ability to conduct discovery sessions with clients. prospects and stakeholders in order to diagnose business opportunities, elicit requirements and conduct other types of research
• Strong communication and presentation (PowerPoint) skills

• Product management tools – product design (e.g. Invision, Zeplin), development task management (e.g. Jira, Azure DevOps), documentation and knowledge (e.g. Confluence, SharePoint), collaboration (e.g. Microsoft Teams, Slack), roadmap and portfolio management (e.g. Aha!, Daptiv)

  Required Experience

• University Degree (Equivalent to Bachelor's degree) in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline

• Proven technical or business experience in Energy Sector, including but not limited to Distributed Energy Resources (DER), Grid Code Compliance (GCC) and Electrical Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) or a related industry field.

• Experience or demonstrated competency in product management.

• Demonstrated project management experience, with the ability to lead and coordinate complex projects.

• Working with remote teams is highly valued.

  Preferred Qualifications

• Operational commercial experience in the segment as well as deep understanding of the marketplace.

• 5+ years of related discipline experience, formal training and/or certification in Product Management is a plus.

• 5+ years of technical or business experience in Distributed Energy Resources (DER), Grid Code Compliance (GCC) and Electrical Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) or a related industry field.

• Professional certifications in project management (e.g., PMP)
