Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

As the PLM for premium optical fibers, this person is responsible for product definition, product positioning and strategy, competitive analysis, forecasting, as well as optimizing long term profitability by balancing value pricing & customer demand position. They lead collaborative engagement with product line management, technology, manufacturing, and commercial organizations to define the global long-range product strategy and interact regularly with OFC’s leadership team to discuss and align on objectives and solicit support as needed from all functions.

The ideal candidate must possess a unique blend of business, operations and technical savvy along with long-range vision and the ability to work cross-functionally in order to implement the business’ strategy. This includes working effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. Lastly, the person must be comfortable and willing to make difficult and sometimes unpopular decisions for the long-term viability of the product line.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple Global product lines, across markets and regionsResponsible for leading and developing team of Product Line Managers
    • Drive integration and collaboration across Corning Optical Connectivity teams in fiber, cables, HSDC (hyper scale data centers), and connectivity to achieve MAP and division strategic business objectives
  • Establish a vision that leads to maximizing long-term profitability of product line and align the organization to execute that strategy
  • Responsible for the overall P&L for the Premium Fiber product lines
  • Work with technology and manufacturing leaders to prioritize product development and manufacturing priorities to align with overall product line strategy
  • Understand the competitive environment and devise plans to differentiate and counteract as needed
  • Interpret market demand and provide forecast for capacity planning
  • Be the Champion for new product introductions and provide technical support for the development of product literature and promotional brochures
  • Work with the Commercial organization to devise value propositions to profitably position our products against the competition

Required Education

  • BS in a technical area; or non-technical degree plus high level of technical curiosity
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in product line management, marketing, manufacturing, or engineering in an engineering based, fast paced and customer-focused environment
  • Minimum of 2 years in direct staff supervision
  • Fluent command of the English language and able to compose and communicate both in written and verbal formats complex business and technical issues to the various levels inside and outside of the organization
  • Possess strong business and analytical skills including the understanding of financial statements and the use of spreadsheet software
  • Possess strong work ethic and attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
  • Work efficiently on multiple projects and prioritize effectively to meet deadlines
  • Adapt quickly to changing requirements

Desired Experiences

  • Adept at developing and presenting value propositions to a wide variety of customers
  • Experience in product introduction, analysis, and development of product/market strategies
  • Experience dealing with customers and markets outside of the US
  • Experience with forecasting and forecasting systems
  • Creation and maintenance of customer-related literature

The range for this position is $177,507.00 - $244,073.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
