Job Description

About Project Healthy Minds

Project Healthy Minds is a mental health nonprofit that runs like a tech startup. We are pioneering a first-of-its-kind model: applying technology to address one of the biggest social issues of our time: the growing mental health crisis. We believe in a simple but profound idea: that it should be as easy to find mental health services as it is to book a flight or a restaurant reservation. That's why we're building the world’s first digital marketplace for finding mental health services that are right for you.

To do that, we work with some of the most inspiring and influential leaders in America - business titans, tech entrepreneurs, clinicians and scientists, musicians, artists, athletes, media stars, policymakers, and more - because we believe that the world's most complex challenges require interdisciplinary teams and solutions.

We are backed by a powerhouse of industry-leading Board of Directors and Advisory Council Members who are passionate, hands-on, and dive into the important work with us.

About The Role

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The Product Engineer, Services builds and evaluates the LLM-enabled workflows that power PHM's services data — ensuring that the information users rely on to find mental health support is accurate, complete, and continuously improving. This role pairs (backend-leaning) full-stack engineering with a measurement-first approach to expanding data coverage and quality.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Build and maintain LLM-enabled workflows for acquiring, structuring, and enriching mental health services data from diverse sources
  • Design and implement evaluation frameworks (evals) to measure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of LLM outputs in production
  • Partner with Product to define success criteria for new data workflows before building them
  • Work closely with the Lead Engineer to divide and conquer across the services data domain — you expand coverage while they own core architecture
  • Ship full-stack features end-to-end: backend data processing, API surfaces, and frontend tools for internal and external use
  • Monitor and improve data quality through automated checks, dashboards, and feedback loops
  • Use AI tools (e.g. Claude Code) as a default part of your development workflow
  • Contribute to engineering standards through code reviews, documentation, and thoughtful technical discussion

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Production experience with TypeScript and Node.js (NestJS or similar backend frameworks)
  • Familiarity with Next.js or comparable frontend frameworks — comfortable across the stack
  • Interest in and aptitude for building LLM-powered workflows — you don't need to have built this before, but you need to want to, and you have a track record of learning quickly
  • A measurement mindset: you think about how to know whether something is working before you build it
  • Demonstrated adoption of AI-assisted development (Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent)
  • Comfort working with messy, multi-source data — you don't need clean inputs to make progress
  • A collaborative, low-ego working style — you'll pair closely with a lead engineer and a small team
  • A belief in our mission: connecting millions of Americans to mental health services that actually work for them

WHY THIS IS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY

  • A world-class Board, Clinical Advisory Committee, supporters, and collaborators. We've assembled a truly best-in-class network across business, academia, and media.
  • A big, bold vision with backing. Multi-year track record of strong YoY growth, funded by philanthropy and earned revenue.
  • Startup mindset, social mission ethos. You'll work with a team from venture-backed startups, market-leading enterprises, and everything in between — united by the chance to drive massive positive impact.
  • Own the quality layer for LLM-enabled services. You won't just build workflows — you'll define what "good" looks like and prove it with data.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation
  • Competitive medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • Paid holidays and generous PTO
  • Life insurance
  • Short-term and long-term disability
  • Spring Health mental healthcare
  • Commuter benefits
  • Perks at Work
  • Experience joining a dynamic start-up environment that is re-writing the playbook for social change in the mental health tech space
  • Benefits of joining a close-knit, highly-motivated team with mentorship opportunities from a world-class network of founding leaders, Advisors, and Board members
  • Learning & Development opportunities, including free MasterClass subscriptions
  • Opportunity to attend inspiring experiences and events with thought leaders, business executives, and iconic speakers across a range of industries
  • And more (just ask!)

The annual salary for this role is $155,000–$195,000, commensurate with experience and fit.

About Project Healthy Minds

Who we are:

Project Healthy Minds is a new millennial/Gen Z-driven non-profit startup focused on tackling one of the defining issues of our generation: the growing mental health crisis.

The problem we're solving:

615 million people worldwide and 65 million Americans are diagnosed with a mental health condition, and yet 60% never get mental health support. There are three drivers of this "treatment gap": (1) the stigmatization of the health topic, (2) people don’t know where/how to access care, and (3) insurance constraints and a workforce shortage preclude too many people from being able to afford care.

What we do:

We're building a digital discovery marketplace (think Kayak.com or Expedia for discovering mental health services) -- to make it easier to find mental health care.

We're building an unprecedented national anti-stigma and education campaign featuring celebrities -- to destigmatize mental health and meet millennials/Gen Z where they actually are.

We're creating the first national standards for what businesses should do to better serve the mental health needs of their employees -- to expand availability of care.
