Job Description

The following document outlines your key responsibilities & duties inclusive of the skill set required of this role. Although our engineers work on various projects and products according to the need at the time, the main function of the Product Engineer (MCS) is to help develop world class Microgrid Controllers and related products for Rubicon’s energy departments, including all aspects of modern design and compliance. This role includes a diverse set of disciplines from controlling power electronics to IoT communications.

Design and Development

Design, build, and maintain high-quality software applications for controlling, monitoring, reporting on and supporting microgrids, taking ownership of the full development lifecycle—planning, coding, testing, and deployment.

Day to day work

● Participate in and strongly contribute to sprints for the current workstream
● Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
● Debug and resolve software issues, optimize performance, and enhance scalability and security.
● Develop and maintain automated tests to ensure software reliability.
● Work closely with cloud developers to integrate devices into cloud ecosystems
● Help to specify and design new software or firmware features
● Write documentation for the products worked on
● Design and perform tests for new hardware / software
● Assist customers in 2nd level support tickets
● Aid customers commissioning systems sold

Teamwork and collaboration

● Work closely with the product owner and other engineers to translate requirements into technical solutions
● Assist in product specification and development
● Participate in regular standups
● Continuously build and develop technical competency and skills.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

Required:
• Electronics, Electrical or Mechatronics engineering degree, advanced diploma or similar.
• Solid general understanding of electronic and computer hardware.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Go, Python, C++, JavaScript.
• Experience with modern frameworks and dev tools such as Git, Jira and Confluence
• Relational and Timeseries databases (SQL, Influx)

2-5 years’ experience in:

• Product Development;
• Embedded software / firmware development
The following would all be advantageous in your application:
• IoT environments including applications such as MQTT, Influx etc.
• Familiarity with ESP, SAMD, PIC, ATMEGA, STM or other related microcontrollers
• Another relevant diploma or degree (e.g., renewable energy)
• Experience with industrial communications protocols and networks such as Modbus, RS485, Ethernet etc.
• Renewable energy power systems / microgrids, battery energy storage etc.
Availability & Ability to travel occasionally - locally and possibly internationally is important.
