The Product Engineer actively assists with the new product design and product enhancement to support Oldcastle Infrastructure’s customer focused solutions that serve the Utility and Energy Distribution products in the Energy markets. The successful candidate will be involved all design tasks and aspects within the Highline and Nordic product categories including commercial support and collaboration with Operation and Product Management teams. The Product Engineer will diligently complete assigned work while actively learning and developing their own skills.

Job Location

This role will be remote supporting 2 plants in Devils Lake, ND and Warren, MN.

Job Responsibilities

  • Establish design specifications based on industry and customer standards and expectations.
  • Perform product design and detailing along with product prototyping and testing.
  • Coordinate internal and third-party testing of product.
  • Collaborate with Operations in the design and implementation of tooling, automation, and assembly processes. Ensure manufacturability of designs and a seamless introduction of those designs to production.
  • Establish product specifications, material standards, and testing requirements for operations’ teams based on industry and customer expectations.
  • Product design calculations and 3D modeling of designs.
  • Partner with Drafting team to review/create customer details, product designs and drawings.
  • Provide technical support for quality standards and certifications.
  • Maintain existing regulatory approvals and assist commercial team in acquiring of new approvals.
  • Create part numbers and bills of material.
  • Attend job sites and customer meetings as needed to provide technical support.
  • Support maintenance and improvement of product through change management process.
  • Support the Sales and Customer Service teams in pre-sale and post-sale strategies including answering customer questions and investigating product inquiries/issues.
  • Provide administrative support including managing project documentation, keeping track of progress, and coordinating with other team members.

Job Requirements

  • Strong technical ability and 2 years of product development experience in a similar industry.
  • A pro-active collaborative individual with a passion for excellent product and continuous improvement as well as a keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional team in a fast-paced product development environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communicator with excellent people skills.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling and document management software, preferably with Inventor/Vault.
  • Experience in applicable simulation software tools would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand regulatory code/standards and achieve product compliance.
  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, strength to lift and carry files and products weighing up to 40 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
  • Must be able to work in plant production environment as needed to validate designs, review progress on special projects, perform job safety analysis, and other tasks which will result in some exposure to noise, dust, cold, etc.
  • Must be able to wear PPE when applicable and follow all safety measures.
  • Occasional overnight/business travel - up to 30% within the US, Canada, and Mexico.
