What You Will Do
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs in Python that support real production workloads.
- Refactor and improve existing production systems to enhance performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Develop and support data pipelines and ETL workflows that drive internal platforms and downstream systems.
- Collaborate with product, operations, and clinical teams to translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
- Communicate technical tradeoffs and the business impact of engineering decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Contribute to defining engineering practices and fostering a culture of quality as the team expands.
- Operate effectively in a dynamic environment where systems and requirements are continuously evolving.
Ideal Candidate Background
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a minimum of 3 years of hands-on Python development in production settings.
- Proven track record of maintaining and enhancing live production systems, with a focus on improving code quality and system performance.
- Experience designing and maintaining backend services or APIs, as well as building data pipelines or ETL workflows.
- Startup experience in an early-stage company (approximately 10–50 employees), with a comfort level in evolving systems that are not yet at massive scale.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical collaborators.
Preferred
- Prior experience in healthcare or healthtech, particularly with claims data or EHRs within regulated environments.
- Experience building and scaling ETL pipelines or data platforms that serve as foundational infrastructure for backend systems.
