of the Role “Product Engineer”
Product Engineer is essential in driving Dyson’s mission to deliver innovative, high-performance products to a global market. This role involves working within our Research, Design, and Development department alongside technical specialists and creative teams to ensure our products exceed expectations in quality, functionality, and manufacturability.
Product Engineers take a hands-on approach throughout the product development cycle, from initial project transfer to full-scale manufacturing. They work collaboratively with Project Managers, Design Managers, and other project members to develop and manage project Opex spending and oversee Engineering Builds. Additionally, Product Engineers manage SKU release, work closely with Contract Manufactures (CM) and Joint Development Manufacturers (JDMs) to ensure seamless product development alignment.
This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual with strong project management and multitasking abilities, an engineering degree, and experience in mechanical design. Product Engineers are crucial to Dyson’s commitment to innovation, responsible for delivering products that set new standards in the industry.
Key Responsibilities of the Product Engineer
Develop and manage structured Product Specifications to organizing all test cases ensuring they are comprehensive, traceable, and aligned with the Product Requirement Document (PRD)
Responsible for ensuring Engineering Build maturity by validating 4M1E readiness prior to build start and completion within agreed timelines. Manages Engineering Build machine allocation, monitors build progress, and tracks machine distribution across departments.
Coordinate with CM or JDM on machine build progress, ensuring engineering build machines meet required specifications and delivery timelines.
Act as the primary engineering liaison with CM or JDM partner, facilitating communication on FG technical specifications and engineering changes. Align project plans with CM or JDM timelines to ensure streamlined development phase, including SKU-specific requirements.
Manage New Product Development / Production BOM and SKU drawing throughout Project Development Phase in collaboration with CM and JDM partners, ensuring alignment with the latest design and production standards.
Partner with the finance team to plan and track project Opex and Capex expenditures. Support the preparation of monthly cost performance reviews and Finance LE Budget reporting to ensure project alignment with financial targets.
Working together with the Design Lead and Project Manager to drive lifecycle programs focused on cost reduction, reliability, range reset, and other key initiatives.
Monitor RDD project health KPI performance related to product specifications and analyse results regularly to drive improvement initiatives.
Conduct SKU Finished Goods Initial Sample Inspection Report (ISIR) or Deviation Request (DR) for SOP Technical Variants.
Manages product library sample maintenance and executive sample distribution, oversees prototype engineering build inventory management systems, and enforces prototype identification and traceability governance.

Dyson solves real-world problems and creates better products through the application of engineering, science, design and creativity. It is a family-owned, global technology company, founded by Sir James Dyson who remains at the helm alongside his son Jake.
Since inventing the first cyclonic bagless vacuum cleaner, the DC01, Dyson has consistently invested in research and development to improve its products and technologies radically. Dyson offers products across a growing range of areas: floorcare, air purification, robotics, haircare including formulations, lighting, hand drying, and most recently audio. Dyson continues to expand into new areas.
Today, Dyson sells products in more than 80 markets, has 450 Dyson stores worldwide and is available in all major technology and beauty retailers. Dyson has global headquarters in Singapore and major technology campuses in Singapore, the UK, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Its global team of engineers, scientists and software developers are focused on developing technology-enabled products which work better and which people love to use. Key areas of focus have included high-speed electric digital motors, sensing and vision systems, robotics, machine learning and aerodynamics.
Beyond products, to encourage an inventive future, Dyson is also inspiring the next generation of engineers and inventors through the Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology, the James Dyson Foundation and the James Dyson Award.
The Dyson family applies its problem-solving approach in other fields, and established Dyson Farming in 2012. It is one of the largest farming businesses in the UK, extending to 36,000 acres across Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Somerset. It is a family-owned enterprise unlike any other, focussed on long-term investment in British farming and the countryside to grow tasty and nutritious food.
